Blairgowrie Beach Patrol 3942

Blairgowrie Beach Patrol 3942 Come and join our crew of volunteers. We meet 9:30am on the second Sunday of each month. And we love it. All welcome.

We preserve and enhance the local environment by removing litter from the foreshore and surrounds. Whitecliffs Foreshore Reserve is located toward the southern end of the Mornington Peninsula and stretches along 6km of beautiful beach and Coastal Moonah woodland in Blairgowrie, situated between Rye and Sorrento. This area is a place of sanctuary for many people and home to numerous protected plant

and animal species and ecological communities. With the assistance of the Whitecliffs to Camerons Bight Foreshore Reserve Committee, the Blairgowrie 3942BeachPatrol was founded in 2022 and aims to align with the Committee’s vision of preserving and enhancing the delicate environmental values of the area. We welcome all people to the group, regardless of age, gender, cultural background, and ability. Our group aim is to provide a safe sense of community, while supporting our volunteers to connect to and embrace this beautiful part of the peninsula.

Come and reconnect this Sunday 15th Feb, 9:30am at the Blairgowrie foreshore.

Since we last met, the beach and woodland has changed and so have we. So, for the first 10minutes of our time together, let's get our feet in the sand, take in a breath together and be guided through a remembrance of the ever evolving relationship we have with this place.

Then we'll spend time picking up any litter we can find and coming together at the end for a hot drink and a snack. BYO your favourite cup, if you remember.

Those that are feeling up for it, might love an ocean dip!

If you need any support of have any questions, just reach out! Can't wait to see you Sunday 🌊

9:30 - sign in.
9:35 - guided connection to place (all ages welcome, screaming and bouncy kids included)
9:40 - beach clean
10:30 - litter count, catch up and post beach clean swim.

Our final clean for 2025 is only weeks away. Sunday 7th December, 9:30am.

I apologise that the weekend has changed AGAIN, I'm not really known for my consistency it would seem! But a beach clean is a beach clean and I look forward to seeing everyone of you that can make it.

To make it super fun, there will be SNACKS and some warm drinks. Yep - snacks. Don't all rush me at once 😘 More details to come,

Musings on the fact that coming to the Blairgowrie beach clean on Sunday may actually give you energy back...not take it away. Another way to think about how we spend our time.

To be in nature, to be of service, to be present and mindful, to connect with community. These are all activities that humans need and crave, deep within their physiology. Our beach clean has oodles of this goodness.

Stay as long or as little as you like, or perhaps pick up some litter around home when it suits. The amount it can give back when we are in reciprocity with our local environment is really very beautiful.

NEXT CLEAN : Sunday 9th November, 9:30am (picnic tables opposite the Blairgowrie shops). New people always incredibly welcome.

Lucky it was bin day this morning because I found piles after piles of rubbish along the roadsides yesterday. After all this rain today though, can you guess where it's moving to? Yup. Our coastlines. It's not called sea level for nothing...it all washes down there.

Sooooo, if you want to come and help us on Sunday, please do. However, it could be just as lovely to walk along your street and collect the litter you see there. Someone always leaves a bin out - you won't have to carry it far πŸ˜‰.

**but and also, please come to the November clean so I can see your beautiful faces πŸ₯°

Look at these legends. They cleaned a beach on Sunday - and it made a difference!

Although we collected about 15kgs of litter (from a seemingly pristine shoreline), I say it's not the size of the haul that really counts.

We never know where a bit of rubbish is going to end up! Maybe because we picked up that foil chip packet corner, a seabird chick will be fed fish instead of plastic. It all makes a difference...especially the tiny things.

See you this SUNDAY 14th SEPTEMBER, 9:30am 🌊🐟🐳 (picnic tables opposite the Blairgowrie shops)

New tshirts are on hand for anyone that doesn't have one yet πŸ’™

The logo - an Australasian gannet. The legacy behind our clean. They're really graceful, super great free divers and stinky as (if you get down wind of their nesting site).

Let's come together this weekend and protect the gannet, and all its mates from plastics, fishing wire and anything else we can prevent from dive-bombing the ocean.
