Fun, friendship and community connection!

Our Arabic Speaking Social Group and Civic Class recently enjoyed a great day out at the Penrith International Regatta Centre, bringing people together for social connection, laughter and fun. Families joined us during the school holidays, with some travelling by bus and others making their own way to the venue.

The day included refreshments, games, lucky door prizes and a valuable fire safety session delivered by our volunteer, Amisha and Settlement Case Worker, Mervat.

Thanks to everyone for making this excursion a great experience for everyone and we look forward to seeing you at our next social group get-together.

Did you know that more than 3 million people are unpaid carers in Australia?

It’s National Carers Week 2026 (11-17 October) and we want to say that we see you and we understand the complex role you do as family or friend to someone with support needs and we thank you for the caring role you provide.

If you need help, you can always reach out to us and we can talk about how we can support your carer role.

And don’t forget that Carer Gateway, an Australian Government program providing free services and support for carers, is there for you where you can access counseling, peer support and resources through https://www.carergateway.gov.au/

A Journey of Resilience, Opportunity and Success
When Abang Ojulu first came to SydWest, finding employment was a significant challenge. Despite her determination, limited work experience and language barriers made it difficult to secure opportunities.

Working closely with SydWest Youth Case Worker Engela over the past two years, Abang never gave up. Recognising her potential, Engela referred her to The Social Outfit's eight-week paid retail experience and mentoring program, designed to help refugees gain valuable workplace skills, confidence and experience.

Abang was selected as one of only three female participants and threw herself into the program with commitment and enthusiasm. Her hard work paid off. Not only did she successfully graduate, but she has also secured a position with The Iconic, starting in November.

For Engela, celebrating alongside Abang at her graduation was an emotional and proud moment. Seeing Abang's confidence grow and her employment goals become a reality was a powerful reminder of the impact that opportunity, encouragement and the right support can have on a young person's future.

Congratulations, Abang! We're incredibly proud of all you've achieved and can't wait to see where your journey takes you next. 💙

What is respite?
Short-term accommodation respite is temporary, out-of-home care and support for a child with a disability or high support needs, giving them a safe change of routine while providing their parents or primary carers with a planned break.

With NDIS plans, you can access up to 28 days of short-term respite per calendar year - but you need to make sure you ask for it in your child's plan and budget.

 Day respite services
 Weekend respite options
 Overnight short-term accommodation
 Qualified, NDIS-checked support workers
 Safe and monitored facilities
 Comfortable bedrooms and relaxing spaces
 Nutritious meals provided
 24/7 care and supervision

Our property features fun and exciting activities such as outdoor play equipment and large blackboard walls and has recently undergone a refresh with exciting new wall murals in several locations inside the property.
