Harvest time in the apple orchard. To determine whether the apples are ready to be picked, we use several tests - does it come away from the tree easily, the taste test and the iodine test to determine how much starch v sugars are present in the apple. The iodine will react in the presence of starch and turn black. This apple is not ripe enough to harvest as not enough starch has converted to sugar. 🍎🍎🍎

Great team effort today out at the farm in very warm conditions...tomatoes staked, beds weeded, compist turned and paths mulched. Welcome to Jay on her first day out and thanks to Deb, Sasi, Elaine, Jess, Paul, and Tony! With the rain and heat this week plants are growing so quickly so we should be harvesting soon.

A warm weather poly tunnel solution, thanks to Jeff Crompton’s design and construct skills. Allows air flow through the poly tunnel but keeps out those pesky locals who love to come and help themselves to our veg. Using netting on the frame allows bees and other pollinators easy access.

Lovely day, if a bit wet, in the garden. Massive amount of pruning so the perennial beds are looking lovely. We also made a new lot of compost and have Rocky the Owl looking over our beds..hopefully keeping the cockatoos off the garlic😀
