We’re so excited to have recently launched our Independent Dementia Cafés Directory, which brings together dementia cafés from across Australia in one place so that families can more easily find a café closer to home.
There are so many beautiful dementia cafés already operating in local communities, and while they all look a little different, they have so much in common. They are places where people can come together, have a coffee, share a meal, laugh, talk, play games, make friends and simply feel connected. Looking through these photos, you can really see the warmth, friendship and sense of belonging that these spaces create.
It is important to note that the cafés listed in the directory operate independently of Umbrella Dementia Cafés. They are run by different organisations and community groups, but we all share the same purpose.
One of the main reasons we created the directory was because finding a dementia café can actually be quite difficult. Many cafés do not have the word “dementia” in their name, so unless you already know they are there, they can be hard to find. We wanted to create one place where people could search, learn more and connect with a café in their local area.
