What does it mean, "To Walk, by Faith"?
2 Corinthians 5:7 — “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
This beautiful verse sits right in the middle of Paul’s message that, although we live in a fallen world and experience its decay, because of the Holy Spirit and the life of God within us, we can live powerful, effective lives pleasing to God.
We live these victorious lives through faith. When we learn to walk by faith and not by sight, Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 5, we live with bold cheerfulness. We can be cheerful because we know that no matter what we face, we win!
So, what do we do with this precious faith that God has given us?
As we go through life, we always have a choice about how we are going to walk and live. We can live by sight—what we see in the natural, our own strength, abilities, and resources—or we can live by faith—by what God has said and promised in His Word.
Are we going to walk by what we see and feel?
Or are we going to walk by faith?
We are called to follow the path that is guided by what God has said about us. This is how we are called and empowered to live. This is how we live lives that are pleasing to God.
What we believe about God and His promises is what we speak.
“Since we have the same spirit of faith… we also believe and therefore speak” (2 Corinthians 4:13).
Even when we do not feel like it, speaking what God has said is an act of faith. We choose to walk by faith. We speak with purpose, the promises of God as being ours.
Remember, our feelings do not have to define the outcome - we walk by faith.
I encourage you this week to follow what God has said in His Word, because we walk, speak, and live by faith—not by what we see or feel.
