Friends of Waubs Bay is a small group of local citizens who set out to start a community conversation about Waubs Bay and its surrounds. This is a place loved by many for many different reasons, and we all share a vested interest in ensuring it continues to be used wisely. From the beginning, our intention has been to support a community driven process to help determine how the future of this area is managed for our children and future generations.
Thank you to everyone who has shared feedback — we are listening, and we genuinely appreciate the time people have taken to engage.
It’s clear that Waubs Bay holds a wide range of values for our community, including recreational fishing, local livelihoods, tourism, culture, and the health of the marine environment. We acknowledge that we may have moved too quickly in putting forward a petition before fully hearing from the broader community.
We care deeply about the long term health of our coastline and believe stewardship is a shared responsibility. We want to work with the community — including recreational fishers and everyone who values this place — to better understand what matters most and how we can move forward together.
To begin this process, we will be hosting a community workshop at the Bicheno Hall on Saturday 23 May, from 2pm to 4pm, and we warmly welcome everyone to be part of the conversation.
Thank you again for your input and your ongoing care for this special place. It’s clear we’ve sparked many conversations. Let’s continue them in a meaningful and productive way.
