Marcus and I are reasonably upbeat . The forecast is changing by the hour . The latest forecast shows a weather window before 10am tomorrow then the wind strengthening. We are going to have an attempt on the summit to be there about 7.30am, meaning an 11pm leave tonight.
We have reached camp3 at 6000 metes so we have 950m to climb and somehow be fit to launch the gliders.

Our Fly from Aconcagua mission is far from complete but if we can manage to get photos and video of our two red “END POLIO NOW paragliders together at 7000m above see level our fly from Everest project for polio eradication continues to live and supports Rotary Internationals End Polio Now campaign.

We are on the mountain at camp two and stuck here for a bit. Our aummit paragliding weather window for the 16th appears to have been closed but mountain weather can change so we will never say it’s over. We intend to still summit Aconcagua if possible however there has been no summits from any teams due to high avalanche danger. Unseasonal snow falls is hampering all teams.
It’s a waiting game - we may retreat to base camp till there is a chance to make the summit but will hang here at 5500m at least until the 100kmh plus winds abate

All parties who tried to get from here to base camp this morning were turned around and are now back at Confluencia camp with us because there is too much snow up there and the mules can’t get through. This is the middle of summer here and 40degC back home. We all passed our medical.

Beats carrying our gear to camp

08/01/2026

We are having an easy day at camp Confluencia 3400m. Yesterday was an acclimatisation day with a trek to 4090m, with tremendous views of the south wall of Aconcagua and return.
Late yesterday snow began to fall and has continued, halting all movements between camps. It so far hasn’t affected our itinerary however gear movements by mule could be delayed until the snow clears on the trail - this may stop our ascent to Base Camp (Plaza de Mulas).

Our camp hosts are currently preparing an authentic bbq lunch - very unique standing beside a wood fuel bbq under falling snow.

We have all passed the necessary medical here at Confluencia so cleared to trek higher when the weather improves
