Glenorchy City Brass Inc.

Glenorchy City Brass Inc. Glenorchy City Brass Inc is a community brass band organisation based in the city of Glenorchy, TAS. The Glenorchy City Brass Inc.

has been entertaining the people of southern Tasmania continuously for more than 60 years and until 1979, operated out of Hobart as the Returned Services Memorial Band. In 1983 the band had to vacate its rehearsal rooms in the old Treasury building on the corner of Davey and Murray Streets. Without a home, and with a sponsorship arrangement coming to an end, the band was in a desperate situation a

nd on the verge of winding up. The Glenorchy City Council decided it was time for their city to have a band and adopted the ensemble as its own in 1984, providing rehearsal facilities, an annual grant and assisting with uniforms. The name of the band was amended to reflect its new home, and the Glenorchy City Concert Brass was born. In 2021, the organisation became incorporated in its own right, keeping strong ties with the council and underwent the name change to Glenorchy City Brass Inc. currently has two ensembles; the Glenorchy City Community Brass, a C grade band and the Glenorchy City Concert Brass, an A grade band. Both ensembles regularly compete in State and National competitions and usually hold several performances each year.

Congratulations to three of our members who participated in the open instrumental concerto section in the City of Hobart Eisteddfod this evening. All three played beautifully resulting in a battle of the trumpets for the top three places in the section. After much deliberation, Aavi was awarded first place with Zachary in second and Carla in third. Well done to all three of you!

This is the thirtieth year that Noel Hunt has played the last post at the Lenah Valley ANZAC Day service. What an incredible contribution!

It was lovely to commemorate the day at Lenah Valley again this morning and pay respects to all who have fought for and died for our country. Lest we forget.

It is with deep sadness that we learnt of the passing of our dear friend and bandmate, Hayden Dare. A cherished member of our youth brass band from 2000, and later senior band, Hayden brought not only extraordinary musical talent but also a spirit of kindness, enthusiasm, and generosity.
We will not forget those early days, piling into Deano’s van with the Goldsmith, Hunt and Segovia boys, picking up Hayden from his home in Mount Rumney, with his mother often farewelling us with cookies for the trip to Glenorchy. From his first rehearsal to his final performance, Hayden was larger than life, with a big smile, enthusiasm and dedication. He was the kind of person who was passionate about music, friendly to all, was always lending a hand, and who encouraged others.
Though his time was far too short, he will be remembered. Hayden, you will always be part of our band.

Last weekend Glenorchy City Concert Brass had the pleasure of working with Mark Ford Oam to record 14 of Mark's compositions. It was a great opportunity for the band and really put the chops to the test.

It was also a special opportunity for Glenorchy's Joe Cook and Mark to be in the same room, after both were recently awarded OAMs for services to community music. It was a real honour for the band to work with two of the greats!
