A Total Fire Ban will be in place tomorrow, Sunday, 25 January for the Eastern Riverina and Monaro Alpine areas. Hot, dry and windy conditions are forecast across parts of the state, increasing the fire danger.

A Total Fire Ban is now in place for the the Southern Riverina, Eastern Riverina, Southern Slopes and Monaro Alpine districts. The following Local Government Areas are impacted;

❌ Southern Riverina - Berrigan; Edward River; Federation; Murray River; Southern parts of Murrumbidgee

❌ Eastern Riverina - Albury; Coolamon; Greater Hume; Junee; Lockhart; Wagga Wagga

❌ Southern Slopes - Cootamundra-Gundagai; Hilltops; Snowy Valleys

❌ Monaro Alpine - Snowy Monaro

Advice for NSW border residents – Fire in Victoria

The large bush fire burning in Victoria near the border with NSW has generated its own thunderstorm. Lightning from this storm has been detected just west of Khancoban and smoke from the fire is drifting in an easterly direction towards Jindabyne and Cooma.

Five RFS units from Berridale and East Jindabyne responded to a grass fire at Hill Top earlier today.

With hot and windy conditions forecast over the coming days, the NSW RFS is urging the community to remain vigilant.

Please exercise extra caution when outdoors, avoid any activities that could ignite a fire, and report any smoke or fire immediately to Triple Zero (000
