About Rotary

Origins:
Rotary was the first service club in the world. It was formed in 1905 in the USA by Paul Harris, and started with four members. It has spread throughout the world, and is now an organisation of well over a million members, in nearly 30,000 clubs, in 160 countries. Rotarians encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, conduct humanitarian projects, and work towards wo

rld peace and understanding, as well as enhancing their business relationships. The Object of Rotary:
The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular to encourage and foster:

The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service
High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of worthiness of all useful occupations and the dignifying by each Rotarian of their occupation as an opportunity to serve society. The application of the ideal of service by every Rotarian to their personal, business, and community life. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service. ROTARY'S VISION STATEMENT:
Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change
- across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves

The Rotary Club of Berowra Inc. Service projects undertaken by the club support the local and international community, and include, for example:

The BowelCare campaign, aimed at early detection of bowel cancer
Inbound and outbound Rotary Youth Exchange students. Pride of Workmanship Awards for local employees who “go the extra mile”. Community Service Awards for those who give service to the community. Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, a one-week leadership-training seminar for young people aged 18 to 26. Sponsoring citizenship awards in our local primary schools. Our fund raising activities include two plant sales per year to enable us to make donations to many worthy causes. Rewards of Membership
Fellowship with your peers is time well spent. The friendships established through Rotary become some of the most lasting. Social activities are a significant part of Rotary club life, including theatre nights, boating trips, progressive dinners, barbecues, restaurant nights and so on. The Rotary Club of Berowra, apart from taking part in national and international activities, is dedicated to, and very active in, the local community. The great feeling experienced when doing something worthwhile for others in the company of like members cannot be overstated. Rotary Four Way Test
All members of Rotary endeavour to live by what we call the Rotary Four Way Test

Is it the truth? Will it build goodwill and better relationships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned? Meetings
The Rotary Club of Berowra meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month at the Berowra RSL Club, 997 Pacific Highway Berowra at 6.30pm for 7.00pm unless otherwise indicated. The meetings last for up to 2 hours, and may include a guest speaker. Partners and Visitors are welcome.

2026 will see the end of this program - as thankfully the number of plastic bread tags has decreased. However if you have some stored ….

As we approach the end of the year, Shamida Ethiopia invites you to participate in a meaningful giving opportunity that creates direct, tangible impact.

Through Shamida’s End-of-Year Giving Campaign, donors can choose specific “gifts”, such as nutritious meals, school support, medical care, diapers, formula, livestock, or boarding school fees, that directly support children in Shamida’s care. Donations range from short-term essentials (one month of food, healthcare, or education) to longer-term investments in sustainability and wellbeing.

Each donation can also be gifted in honor of a family member, friend, or colleague, making it a thoughtful way to celebrate the season while making a real difference.

We would be grateful if you would consider sharing this campaign within your embassy community. Donations can be made easily via the QR code or website provided on the attached flyer.
