About Rotary
Origins:
Rotary was the first service club in the world. It was formed in 1905 in the USA by Paul Harris, and started with four members. It has spread throughout the world, and is now an organisation of well over a million members, in nearly 30,000 clubs, in 160 countries. Rotarians encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, conduct humanitarian projects, and work towards wo
rld peace and understanding, as well as enhancing their business relationships. The Object of Rotary:
The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular to encourage and foster:
The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service
High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of worthiness of all useful occupations and the dignifying by each Rotarian of their occupation as an opportunity to serve society. The application of the ideal of service by every Rotarian to their personal, business, and community life. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service. ROTARY'S VISION STATEMENT:
Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change
- across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves
