Pizza Banquet
On Wednesday 18th February, The Lions Club of Berowra held a social event that engaged in a Pizza Banquet extravaganza, featuring a variety of pizzas from a local Berowra outlet. Photos here show the large number of members engaged in the event, when members of the Lions Club of Hornsby joined in the celebrations. First on was the presentation of a cheque to the Executive Officer Samantha (Sam) King from the Youth Up Front initiative. The Youth Up Front development program, operated out of Grandma’s Refuge in Ingleside, offers mentoring, personal development, and hands-on learning opportunities for students who are struggling to engage with traditional schooling. Youth Up Front is not part of the NSW state education system nor a formal VET training centre. Instead, it provides a unique environment where students - primarily high-school-aged boys - work together on landscaping and infrastructure projects. Through these physical activities, they build teamwork, social skills and a sense of accomplishment that helps them re-engage with their education and plan for their futures. The program also connects students with businesses offering VET work experience placements. Fund-raising for the project is a Lions ‘Zone’ project including several nearby Lions Clubs such as Hornsby, Ku-Ring-Gai, St. Ives, Turramurra, and West Pennant Hills - Cherrybrook Lions Clubs.
The second part of the event was when former Berowra resident, Graham Estreich, who is now the 2nd Vice District Governor of Lions District N5, attended to present several long service awards to members of Berowra and Hornsby Lions Clubs. Photos here are of Rhonda Engert, Mike Hurwitz and Jamie Roberts receiving their awards.

Here we are back again at Bunnings Pymble superstore. The weather yesterday was hot and sticky and there seemed to be fewer customers because of that. However, the merry team of Berowra Lions Club ran a BBQ and cake and honey stall. We sold out to the last cooked sausage and the last cold soft drink!
