Hi everyone,

I’m forwarding an email from RSL NSW shared by our Secretary recently regarding the 2026 budget announced changes to the Veterans Allied Health Care, for information to all Sub Branch members, local ADF personnel currently serving and retired, and the wonderful Bermagui and South Coast community.
We want to hear from you!
The Australian Government has now released a discussion paper on proposed changes to allied health arrangements for veterans, including the proposed $5,000 annual review threshold, with consultation open until 30 October 2026.

RSL Australia and its State and Territory Branches, including RSL NSW, have led the way in advocating on this issue since the measure was announced in the Federal Budget in May.

The RSL raised concerns from Budget night and has continued to press the Government and Department of Veterans’ Affairs for answers about how the proposed changes could affect veterans, particularly those with complex, chronic, or ongoing healthcare needs.

RSL Australia and its State and Territory Branches are united in our determination to ensure no veteran is worse off. Together, we have brought a coalition of 10 ex-service and veteran support organisations together to oppose the proposed cap and seek an alternative approach from the Australian Government.


We welcome the opportunity the consultation process provides to scrutinise the proposal and influence its final design. We will continue working constructively with the Government and DVA to ensure the voices and experiences of veterans and their families are heard, and that no veteran is worse off as a result of these changes.


We also recognise there has been a lot of noise surrounding this issue, and that this has created stress, uncertainty, and anxiety for some veterans and their families, particularly those who rely on regular allied health care.


That makes it important that veterans have access to clear information about what is actually being proposed, what has not yet been decided, and the opportunity to have their voices heard before any new arrangements are finalised.


RSL NSW wants to hear from our members and the wider Defence and veteran community in New South Wales.

Then, tell us what you think. What concerns do you have? How could the proposed arrangements affect you or your family? What safeguards do you think need to be in place?

Your experiences and feedback will help inform RSL NSW’s contribution to the RSL’s formal submission to the Australian Government.

On this day 60 years ago Australian Defence personnel faced one of the toughest battles ever fought. The battle of Long Tan was fought on Aug 18th 1966, in a rubber plantation in South Vietnam.

To the 108 Australian Soldiers from D company, who faced an estimated 2000 Viet Cong and Nth Vietnamese troops in the battle of Long Tan, we remember the 24 soldiers lost in that conflict, and to every Australian participant in the Vietnam war - conscript or volunteer…..

Lest we Forget

The Bermagui RSL Sub Branch will be holding a meeting on Monday 08 June beginning at 2 PM.

The meeting will take place in ‘the Dungeon’, our ground floor meeting room at Bermagui Country Club.

It is likely our last regular meeting for a few months as many members take their Winter pilgrimage North!

All members and interested members are encouraged to attend.

ANZAC Day services at the Beautiful setting of the Bermagui Memorial this year were respectful and solemn, remembering all of those Australian lives lost in defence of our nation.

A large crowd attended both the Dawn and Main services which were professionally supported by the members of Australia’s Federation Guard, forming a Catalfalque Party.
Commander Kerryn McCallum provided an inspiring speech at the Dawn Service, as did Wing Commander (Ret’d) Ian Warburton at the Main Service, acknowledging Australia’s contribution to previous conflicts, including several members of the Bermagui community; whilst also acknowledging the many ADF members that have since, and still are deployed in support of our nation.

My friend Margaret provided the images below of the Dawn service. I’m expecting a gallery of official photos from our ADF photographer which I’ll share when received.
The Bermagui RSL Sub Branch executive and members expressed gratitude to all that attended, particularly the Federation Guard and guest speakers that saw this years ANZAC Day services arguably the best attended yet.

​The Bermagui (Sub-Branch) of the RSL wish to advise Service
​Personnel and members of the Bermagui community and surrounds that Anzac Day Services for 2026 will proceed as outlined below.

​​​​​​Dawn Service - Commences at 6am at the War Memorial. Please arrive early as the service commences at 6am sharp.
(Followed by the traditional “Gun Fire Breakfast” at the
Bermagui Beach Hotel.)

​​​Commemorative Service - Commences at 11am at the War Memorial.
​​​
Members participating in the March will form up in Lamont St (opposite the Pharmacy) and March of at 10.45am sharp, to the Memorial.


Please Note.
To ensure the safety of the marchers and the public, Lamont Street will be closed to all non-emergency vehicles from 10.30am until approx 11.45am.

Disabled persons will be provided vehicle access to the reserved car park, adjacent to the Memorial.

We are very fortunate to have the Australian Federation Guard as the Catafalque Party at the Dawn and 11am Services.

Hi members and interested members,

There will be a meeting this coming Monday, 13th April 2026 at Bermagui Country Club in the RSL Sub Branch ground floor ‘dungeon’ room to discuss ANZAC Day program and other matters of interest.
All are welcome!

This years ANZAC Day Service will have an official Catafalque Party joining with our RSL Sub Branch members and local community to commemorate this event. Members of the Australian Federation Guard will support the Dawn and 11am Services at the Bermagui Memorial.

Timings and program details of the 2026 ANZAC DAY services will be shared on our FB page, watch this space!
