On this day 60 years ago Australian Defence personnel faced one of the toughest battles ever fought. The battle of Long Tan was fought on Aug 18th 1966, in a rubber plantation in South Vietnam.

To the 108 Australian Soldiers from D company, who faced an estimated 2000 Viet Cong and Nth Vietnamese troops in the battle of Long Tan, we remember the 24 soldiers lost in that conflict, and to every Australian participant in the Vietnam war - conscript or volunteer…..

Lest we Forget

The Bermagui RSL Sub Branch will be holding a meeting on Monday 08 June beginning at 2 PM.

The meeting will take place in ‘the Dungeon’, our ground floor meeting room at Bermagui Country Club.

It is likely our last regular meeting for a few months as many members take their Winter pilgrimage North!

All members and interested members are encouraged to attend.

ANZAC Day services at the Beautiful setting of the Bermagui Memorial this year were respectful and solemn, remembering all of those Australian lives lost in defence of our nation.

A large crowd attended both the Dawn and Main services which were professionally supported by the members of Australia’s Federation Guard, forming a Catalfalque Party.
Commander Kerryn McCallum provided an inspiring speech at the Dawn Service, as did Wing Commander (Ret’d) Ian Warburton at the Main Service, acknowledging Australia’s contribution to previous conflicts, including several members of the Bermagui community; whilst also acknowledging the many ADF members that have since, and still are deployed in support of our nation.

My friend Margaret provided the images below of the Dawn service. I’m expecting a gallery of official photos from our ADF photographer which I’ll share when received.
The Bermagui RSL Sub Branch executive and members expressed gratitude to all that attended, particularly the Federation Guard and guest speakers that saw this years ANZAC Day services arguably the best attended yet.

​​​ ANZAC DAY - 2026

​The Bermagui (Sub-Branch) of the RSL wish to advise Service
​Personnel and members of the Bermagui community and surrounds that Anzac Day Services for 2026 will proceed as outlined below.

​​​​​​Dawn Service - Commences at 6am at the War Memorial. Please arrive early as the service commences at 6am sharp.
(Followed by the traditional “Gun Fire Breakfast” at the
Bermagui Beach Hotel.)

​​​Commemorative Service - Commences at 11am at the War Memorial.
​​​
Members participating in the March will form up in Lamont St (opposite the Pharmacy) and March of at 10.45am sharp, to the Memorial.


Please Note.
To ensure the safety of the marchers and the public, Lamont Street will be closed to all non-emergency vehicles from 10.30am until approx 11.45am.

Disabled persons will be provided vehicle access to the reserved car park, adjacent to the Memorial.

We are very fortunate to have the Australian Federation Guard as the Catafalque Party at the Dawn and 11am Services.

Hi members and interested members,

There will be a meeting this coming Monday, 13th April 2026 at Bermagui Country Club in the RSL Sub Branch ground floor ‘dungeon’ room to discuss ANZAC Day program and other matters of interest.
All are welcome!

This years ANZAC Day Service will have an official Catafalque Party joining with our RSL Sub Branch members and local community to commemorate this event. Members of the Australian Federation Guard will support the Dawn and 11am Services at the Bermagui Memorial.

Timings and program details of the 2026 ANZAC DAY services will be shared on our FB page, watch this space!
