A DIFFERENT WAY OF LIVING

This weekend in Melbourne, we’ll be at the Coburg Vegan Market. 💛💚

But what we’re really bringing isn’t just a stall. It’s a small window into a different way of living.

At the Sanctuary of Sentient Beings, everything we do comes back to something pretty simple:

Rescuing Animals
Returning the Wilderness
Caring for Country

These aren’t separate ideas to us.
They’re all connected.

The way we care for animals affects the land. The way we care for the land shapes the future. And all of it asks us to live a little more gently, thoughtfully, and compassionately.

If you’re curious about plant based living, or would simply like to learn more about what we do at the sanctuary and why it matters, come and say hello. We’ll also have some beautiful sanctuary merch with us too.

We’ve had our lovely friend Tenille staying with us and volunteering at the sanctuary this week. 🙌

She’s jumped straight into the rhythm of things, dirty work, animal cuddles and all. It has been so nice having the extra set of hands (and the wonderful company!).

Grateful for the help, the chats, and laughs along the way. Thanks so much for being here with us Tenille.. Fleckie and Lana are very happy about those snacks! ✨

We’ve been a little quiet on here the past few weeks.. but we promise we’re still very much here! 🤍

Rescuing Animals. Returning the Wilderness. Caring for Country.

The days are full of tending land, caring for our beautiful residents and keeping everything moving behind the scenes.

But we still need you!

One of the most powerful ways to help us keep ticking along is by sponsoring one of these beautiful souls (some pics from the rainy days recently). Sponsorship helps cover feed, medical care and the everyday costs that make their safe lives possible.

If you’ve ever felt connected to one of these faces, this is such a meaningful way to be part of their story. Donations also make a real and immediate difference! See the link in our bio.

Thank you for being here, we can’t do this without you.

To care for animals is to live with awareness.

Awareness of the animals themselves, their presence, their moods, the small shifts that tell you when something is changing. . And awareness too, of the weather, the land, the trees, the wildlife and of how quickly everything can change.

As fires once again move through parts of Victoria, we are thinking of all those facing fear and uncertainty, people and animals alike, especially those who rely entirely on human care.

The sanctuary is safe today, and we are deeply grateful.

With heartfelt thanks to the firefighters, vets, wildlife carers, and volunteers who continue to show up for life in its most vulnerable moments. You are truly amazing.

The past couple of days have been intense here at the sanctuary.

Fires have been burning nearby, and while the sanctuary is safe, it’s been a stressful time. We’ve been watching the horizon closely, staying alert, surrounded by smoke at stages and ready to evacuate the animals if needed. All while trying to ensure our animals are comfortable in the extreme heat.

Yesterday the wind shifted and began directing the fire our way, adding another layer of urgency and worry. That waiting, where you’re prepared but hoping you won’t need to act, is something many rural communities know all too well.

In these two photos taken by our neighbour Jim, you can see the fire line glowing beneath the sunset, and Lana grazing in our top paddock. The contrast is striking. Fear and normality sitting side by side.

We want to extend the biggest, most heartfelt thank you to the and all volunteer firefighters. Your care, courage, and tireless work protecting people, animals, and the land is incredible. We are deeply grateful.

Our hearts are also with everyone across the state who has been affected by fires. The impact reaches far beyond what’s visible.

This is the reality of rural living, and of running an animal sanctuary. It can be worrying and confronting, but it has also been heartwarming to witness people rallying, checking in, and showing up for the animals and each other.

We don’t do this alone. Sanctuaries are built through relationships, care, and people showing up in different ways.

Just before Christmas, Clare, our fundraising and marketing lead, spent a day at the sanctuary, visiting from WA. It was such a good chance to be together on the land and share this place in person.

She spent time with the animals, watched the sheep through their annual shear, and fed our new little girls Matilda and Delilah, which felt really special.

Clare does so much in the background and has supported the sanctuary in big ways this past year. Having her here, even briefly, meant a lot.

Looking forward to growing things further with her support in the year ahead 🤍
