Volunteering across the generations 💜

Local volunteers share what keeps them coming back: the smiles, the friendships, the sense of purpose and simply doing their bit to help others. Whether it’s mentoring young people, supporting local initiatives, or being part of a community, volunteering can make a real difference, for others, and for your own mental wellbeing too.

Green thumbs at the ready 🌱

It’s the season for getting outdoors, getting your hands dirty, planting seedlings, building worm farms and picking up little bits of knowledge about how to help a garden grow.

Here’s a handful of green-thumbed opportunities we’ve spotted, but be sure to check locally and see what’s happening in your area.

🌿 Join a workshop and learn how to grow your own food with the Shire of Goomalling
See events: www.goomalling.wa.gov.au/events
🌼 Enjoy some stunning natives at the opening of the new native garden with the Shire of Merredin
See events: www.merredin.wa.gov.au/events
🪱 If worms and composting are your thing, learn more about setting up worm farms with the City of Vincent
See events: www.vincent.wa.gov.au/events
🌱 Or become a Weeding Warrior and help care for bushland reserves with the City of Kwinana

Verge planting season is happening now too, with some councils offering subsidised plant packs, so it’s worth checking what’s available in your area.

Community gardens are also beautiful places to spend time and connect with nature, meet people, share a cuppa and be part of something bigger.

Whether it’s a workshop, a community planting session, swapping a few gardening tips or simply enjoying time in the garden, it’s all good for your mental wellbeing and a little bit of nature’s magic 💚

Encore! Bravo! What an inspiring show of creativity last month! 👏

We loved seeing you step outside your comfort zone – trying something new, joining a class, getting involved behind the scenes, or creating quietly at Victoria Park Mens Shed (hello pizza oven disguised as a turtle ).
From the magical sounds of Sambanistas, to Aqua Kre-Artz bringing together art and wellbeing in Yanchep, and to the creative hub led by Building Busselton Town Team, it’s been great to see all kinds of art right across WA.

Arts April might be over, but the mental wellbeing benefits of creativity are something you can keep coming back to. 💜

Creativity isn’t about perfection, it’s about the process 💜

Research shows that doing something creative is good for our mental wellbeing. It can help us open our minds to new ideas and see things differently.

Whether it’s music, art or something else entirely, it’s something we can all connect with – because creativity isn’t just for creative people.

So, what are you up to this weekend?

What fills your cup?

High notes, harmonies… or a little boot scootin’ 💜🤠
Whatever your thing is, doing what you love and making some time for you is important.

It's good for your mental wellbeing.👌
