S**tbox Rally Day 8

Townsville QLD

This morning we auctioned off all the cars that owners didn’t want to buy back for $250!
The Kats Mice Toyota Corolla fetched $1,100! In total the auction made $39,700 and the buy backs made $43,000!

We then headed to the beautiful location of Townsville’s Surf Club where the wrap party got started and lasted until I’m not really sure when šŸ˜†

Final thoughts…

What an epic week!
Buddy Group 16 was just fantastic. An eclectic group of people from WA, VIC and NSW who formed friendships and really pulled together as a team when needed. I feel privileged to have met these people and I hope we are in touch for a long time to come.

Tribal Bohemians raised $20,600 for Cancer Council and for that I am truly grateful to everyone who donated, encouraged and sent messages of support along the way.
The donation portal is still open for another 2 weeks if you would like to donate….I will post the link one last time.

I always knew Australia was vast but this last week I have seen vastness in the land that seems to reach the never ending horizon.
I’ve slept under the stars with skies so massive you realise just how small you are in this world.
I have been through towns and communities that are literally in the middle of nowhere but those who live there welcomed 225 cars and 500 people providing us with food and somewhere to camp for the night!

I love my life and I love the opportunities I am afforded living in Australia.
This opportunity and experience is one that will stay with me for a very long time…

Here’s to the next adventure!!!

S**tbox Rally Day 7

Belyando Crossing - Townsville

376kms
167kms unsealed roads
210kms sealed roads
Temp 40 degrees

I woke up this morning for the last time in my swag, watching the sun rise and listening to the birds sing in the trees. It was just stunning and each of those mornings I won’t forget for a long time.

The Kat’s Mice aka The Three Blind Mice insisted I drive today as I’ve been in the back seat for a couple of days.

We left Belyando Crossing quickly going off road again but through very different countryside. Lots of hills, floodways and even more fun in a manual Corolla!

We reached Burdikan Falls Dam and had a quick stop for lunch. The scenery was stunning as we drove across and around the dam heading for the final 200kms of our epic journey.

The tunes were turned up and spirits were high as we approached Townsville and went through the finish line as the Showgrounds!

3715kms in 7 days across the Australian Outback!

I’m currently too tired to think of much more to say but I’ll post more pics and my thoughts on the week over the next day or two.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us with donations, messages and well wishes. It’s been an experience of a lifetime!

Temp 42 degrees

Fan belt snapped
Flat tyre
Hole in fuel tank
Petrol burns and first aid needed

Today was MASSIVE.

We left Isisford around 9.30am after waking up to a beautiful morning in the middle of trees by a river (we didn’t see it last night as arrived in after dark!)

We got to Barcaldine by lunchtime, stocked up on fuel and necessary supplies šŸ» and had lunch under the Tree of Knowledge!
We carried on to Jericho before hitting another huge unsealed road and that’s where the day really turned.
Team Dropping the C-Bomb had the fan belt tear so we were by the side of the road in 40+ degrees heat for almost an hour while we waiting for a support vehicle to arrive and load her up onto the flatbed.

The boys jumped into other cars and we set off again.

Our car got a flat tyre but as always it was all hands to the deck and it was changed in no time.

Then Team Suttos punctured their fuel tank. In the process of trying to repair it, one of our group sustained burns on her arm from the petrol. First aid ensued and a medical support vehicle was soon on the scene too.
We eventually got going again as dusk fell and a huge storm ensued. Lightening was all around for a few hours with a torrential downpour making for some very slippery roads but very fun driving!

We drove on into the night and finally arrived at camp after 10pm.
Swags are up, food has been consumed and a lovely cold shower has finally cooled me down!

Today was the longest day but also a day when we had the most fun and laughed soooo much!!

With every breakdown the group comes together more and more and friendships have been firmly sealed.

I’m now in my swag for the final night and looking forward to what day 7 will bring. Hopefully we’ll all make it to the finish line tomorrow in Townsville!

Few strange noises happening in some of our cars…..!

The Kat’s Mice have now changed their name to 3 Blind Mice since taking me on! 😁

After a great night in Betoota with great craic we left this morning and headed off for another very hot and very dusty day!

We passed through Windorah and eventually made Jundah to refuel and get an ice cream!
The heat was relentless today so we called into Stonehenge for a quick beverage at the local bar.
Setting off again it became very dusty as the sun was setting and as darkness fell the drive was like going through thick fog for a couple of hours.
Kangaroos, cattle and sheep were all out and we ended up pulling into camp about 8.30.

Di has unfortunately decided to leave the buddy group and leave the rally and is making her way home.
I however will be finishing the rally with our buddy group!

As I lie here in my swag at 10.30pm, it’s an incredibly still night amongst the trees and still 34 degrees. Our buddy group has the most fantastic people and I feel so lucky to have been put with them all.

Here’s for a hot sweaty night ahead! šŸ˜†

S**tbox Rally Day 4

Dress up day 2 - Under the Sea

379 kms
340kms unsealed
39kms sealed
Temp 42 degrees

Maggie started perfectly this morning and it looks like the battery cells may have been ok!
We left Innamicka a bit later than usual as cars were still coming into camp last night until 3am.

162kms into our off road time and we were all getting hammered with stones and rocks.
Then what I’ve dreaded, happened. We got hit by a rock and it took out our sump.
No oil light came on so the engine seized šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

The buddy group pulled together amazingly and towed us for about 30km before a support vehicle came along and Maggie was put up onto the trailer.

The Kat’s Mice very kindly took me into their car while Bern’s Boys took Di.

It was a very long, hot and dusty day despite only being 379kms but we arrived into Betoota to a warm welcome, a long line for fuel and another great feed.

Maggie was officially deemed dead and will stay in Betoota for the locals to strip and use what they can!

S**tbox Rally Day 3

Milparinka - Innamincka

Supposed to be 461km - turned into 745km!

400km on unsealed roads
345km on sealed roads
No idea of the temp as we had no internet all day but it felt in the mid 30s!

We left Milparinka and headed to Tibooburra, then onto Sturt National Park. Lunch was at Cameron Corner where NSW, QLD and SA all meet!

We knew we had a bit of a detour but just when we thought we were potentially coming close to camp we were told we had to go another 276km.

We took a bit of a battering today on the 400km off road.
We thought we’d blown a head gasket but it turned out to be a loose hose thankfully!
We’ve lost most of our bash plate and we have a failed cell in our battery so we need a jump start until we can find a new battery. We also have a hole in the exhaust after so many rocks and stones being thrown up.

Numerous cars took out sumps and fuel tanks with the support crew stating it was carnage out there! So many cars in triage tonight.

13 hours on the road and we finally made Innamincka after a few hours driving in the dark. We had a great feed and a hot shower! The first since we left Bendigo.

Fuel is an issue due to the huge detour.
2 x 40L Jerry cans have been used and we can only pick up 25L each in Innamicka with no fuel until the end of tomorrow’s journey!

S**t is definitely got real today…

Great drive up to Broken Hill, more very flat land and loads more goats everywhere!
Finally we got off road after another weather induced detour.
Red dirt, sand and mud and Maggie is getting through it well.

Swag is set up and we’re ready for a feed!

Bendigo, VIC - Pooncarie, NSW
562kms - all on sealed roads due to weather conditions on the unsealed roads
24 degrees
Breakdowns - nil (in our group anyway!)

A fabulous first day on the road, getting to know our buddy group and travelling in convoy with the other 6 cars.
We left Bendigo around 9am, had a few stops on the way, passing through Kerang, Swan Hill, Robinvale and Mildura before leaving Victoria and crossing into New South Wales!

Very flat but beautiful scenery with a lot of goats along the way!

All set up in the swag now after a good feed, drinks and a lot of banter.

So far, so good…! šŸš™ šŸ’Ø
