Local year 10 student Archer spent last week doing work experience at the Kangaroo Flat electorate office of Labor's state MP for Bendigo West, Maree Edwards.

“This week I had the amazing privilege of doing my work experience at the Honourable Maree Edwards' office,” reported young Archer.

“I also had the amazing privilege of going to Parliament where Jacinta Allan, Lily D'Ambrosio and Maree Edwards all gave up their time to accommodate and speak to me.”

“I cannot thank Maree, her friendly staff and everyone at Parliament, including the Premier and Minister, for making this week unforgettable.”

“I look forward to working with them in the future,” he concluded.

Bendigo will again host the Holi Festival – Festival of Colours – on Saturday 14 March, with the event delivered by the Indian Association of Bendigo and Golden Square Pool.

Holi is a traditional Indian celebration marking the arrival of spring and symbolising renewal, joy, and community.

The event is expected to attract strong participation from Bendigo’s Indian community, with families invited to gather, celebrate and share cultural traditions.

The low-cost, ticketed festival will feature traditional Indian food, drinks, live music, dance performances and a DJ, along with the signature Holi experience of throwing coloured powder into the air.

Attendees are encouraged to wear white clothing and expect to leave covered in vibrant colours.

Organisers have confirmed the event will be alcohol-free and smoke-free, and will take place under standard safety policies. Tickets are now available.

APCO on High Street in Kangaroo Flat is getting a spruce-up as the servo gears up to handle the sheer number of vehicles rolling through every day. 🚗

Company director Peter Anderson has revealed the expansion has been on the cards for a while, revealing APCO snapped up two neighbouring properties a few years back with exactly this kind of upgrade in mind. 🚧

Seems the place has outgrown itself, so now it’s finally getting the space to breathe. ⛽

The old ladder is tricky for many visitors – and even stopped some from coming altogether – so this upgrade was a real win for accessibility and inclusion! ☺️

“Swimmers of all types can enter the pool - elderly, arthritic, expectant mothers, young learners or anyone who is uncomfortable with, or has difficulty using traditional vertical swimming pool ladders,” reported the Committee of Management.

“At Golden Square Pool, we’re committed to making our pool as welcoming and accessible as possible. We have many challenges to overcome that are a legacy of when the pool was built - but we are doing our best every single year to address them.”

Who remembers the old Marong Village shopping centre in High Street, Kangaroo Flat? 🏪

Back when it was built, it had a local heartbeat – named after the former Shire of Marong, which included Kangaroo Flat. Over the years, it became Lansell Plaza, then Centro Lansell – and now goes by Lansell Square. ⏹️

It was just after 6pm on Sunday when a savage assault unfolded in the Lansell Square carpark at Kangaroo Flat – the kind of place you expect trolley wheels squeaking, not someone bleeding on the asphalt.

A 44-year-old man from Elphinstone was found brutally bashed and barely conscious. Paramedics worked desperately before rushing him to hospital, where he remains with serious injuries.

Coppers say a group of teens set on him before scattering into the night like cowards. One 16-year-old was picked up soon after, taken in, questioned, and then released back onto the streets pending further investigation.

Detectives are still trying to identify the rest of the pack and work out what the story was.

But one thing’s becoming painfully obvious. Bendigo – the hometown of Premier Jacinta Allan – is fast becoming Victoria’s crime capital, where a Sunday trip to the shops can end with an ambulance ride.

Sending strength to the victim and his family. No one deserves to end a weekend in a hospital bed because a bunch of wannabe gangsters decided to play tough guy. 💔

A new forest campground has opened in central Victoria, highlighting the connection between nature and Aboriginal heritage. 🌿

Located in Bendigo Regional Park, Larni Yirrip – meaning “home of the ironbarks” in Dja Dja Wurrung language – sits within the Box-Ironbark Forest on the edge of Bendigo. 🌳

The site features 12 walk-in campsites, picnic areas, shelters, toilets, and cultural artworks. ⛺
