Help a new family make Bendigo home.

Our Rotary members are doing something wonderful behind the scenes — helping Karen refugee families settle into life in Bendigo by sourcing good-quality, clean household items and furniture to help turn an empty house into a welcoming home.

We are expecting a new family to arrive very soon — a mother and her young children — and they will need the essentials to help furnish their new home.

I know we have asked before, and here we go again. If you are are decluttering, downsizing or replacing furniture and have clean, good-quality household items that are no longer needed we can give them a new home.

Send us a message or email John at [email protected] and our members will coordinate collection or delivery where possible.

Thank you to everyone who responded to our previous appeal.

For three months this winter, the Bendigo Winter Night Shelter gave people who were sleeping rough a warm, safe and welcoming place to stay. Behind this wonderful service are more than 400 volunteers who give their time, energy and compassion to make the BWNS possible. Among them are many dedicated Rotarians.

This year, Rotary Club of Bendigo Sandhurst was pleased to contribute funds to purchase firewood for the Shelter's outdoor fire area — a simple contribution that helped create a welcoming space where people could gather, enjoy the warmth and have a conversation. (Photo courtesy BWNS Facebook – participants enjoy the fire and firewood provided by local Rotary clubs.)

Rotary in Action: Making a Difference Near and Far. This month we take the time to say thanks to two of our members Judy Miatke and Brian Hodge. The spirit of Rotary is truly reflected in the outstanding work of these two Rotarians. Firstly, let’s cheer for Judy who completed 15 nights service to Bendigo Winter Night Shelter. On the night-shift Judy was there to assist with those arriving for a comfy bed and warm meal and kept things orderly throughout the night. And cheers also for Brian whose efforts to improve the lives and educational outcomes for children in Blue Kangaroo School Uganda are outstanding. Brian and his wife Jan began the project many years ago his work is now supported by Bendigo Sandhurst. Brian’s project has helped improve the educational opportunities available to children and their teachers; our club sponsoring teacher training and upskilling.

Another year closes for Rotary. We celebrated our club with Change Over Lunch at Camp Getaway Axedale on the weekend. There were many achievements in the 2025 2026 year. What is most fun about the Change Over is the good food and good company.

We're proud to call Peppergreen Farm our Wednesday morning home.

Follow the link to a wonderful podcast that shines a light on the people, purpose and community impact of Peppergreen Farm.

Every week, our members enjoy breakfast and fellowship in this inspiring setting, but it's easy to forget just how much important work happens here every day.

We encourage everyone to take a few minutes to watch and learn more about this remarkable Bendigo organisation and the opportunities it creates for people in our community.

Congratulations to the Peppergreen Farm team on this well-deserved recognition. We look forward to seeing you again next Wednesday at 7.00am!

And by the way community-minded people are always welcome at Rotary. Whether you're looking to make new connections, contribute your skills, support local projects, or simply learn more about what we do, we'd be delighted to welcome you to a breakfast meeting.

📢We are beyond excited to have featured on the Australian Farmers Telling Our Story podcast last month!
Our farm manager Daniel sat down with host Angie Asimus to chat everything PGF - most importantly about what we do as a social enterprise, who we support, and the difference we're proud to make in our community 💚

A few weeks ago, we put out a call for donations of furniture, kitchen items, and household goods for local families beginning a new chapter in Australia.

The response from our community was incredible.

These photos capture just a small glimpse of the impact your kindness has had.

On behalf of everyone involved, thank you to every person who donated, shared our appeal, or helped collect and distribute items.

Together, we have demonstrated the very best of community spirit.
