Bendigo Foodshare

Bendigo Foodshare We do this by delivering hands-on empowering initiatives that lead to social change, more resilient families, and stronger communities.

Bendigo Foodshare reduces food poverty by sourcing and distributing food via 90+ food relief partners who provide food to around 15,500 people in need in the right across central Victoria.
📍Now located at 227 Breen Street , Golden Square VIC 3555. Established in 2013 and governed by an experienced volunteer Board, Bendigo Foodshare sources donated and rescued food that would have once ended up in

landfill.

240+ volunteers and around 70 partner food relief organisations help us get this food out to vulnerable people each week across Central Victoria through food relief programs in schools, kindergartens and childcare centres, large charities, and small community and church groups. We know we will never meet demand, and understand that food relief is only part of the solution to increasing food security, so we partner with organisations to increase access to food relief and build skills in growing, cooking and sharing food. Bendigo Foodshare needs financial support to keep providing this service, if you are able to help please donate through our website at www.bendigofoodshare.org.au/donate

What does your donation actually make possible?

It looks like a volunteer loading a van at sunrise. Fresh produce arriving at a food relief partner. A family accessing healthy food when they need support most. Every day across central Victoria, food is moving through our network and into communities because of the support of people like you.

That support reaches far beyond a single meal. Every week, more than 15,500 people are helped through our network. Across a year, that becomes 1.2 million meals provided to people doing it tough across central Victoria.

And while feeding people, we’re also helping the planet. Last year, we rescued 787,679kg of food from going to waste, preventing 1,496 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent greenhouse gases from entering landfill and saving more than 110 million litres of water.

Behind every number is a person, a family and a community and your support helps make it possible.

We recently welcomed 11 of our 100+ food partners into our warehouse for a behind-the-scenes tour.

It was a great opportunity to meet the incredible people who dedicate their time to supporting food relief programs and community meals across our region.

Throughout the day, we shared insights into our operations, discussed common challenges, and explored how we can continue working together to ensure every person in central Victoria has dignified access to healthy food.

As we approach the end of the financial year, a meaningful tax-deductible donation before June 30 can make a real difference. Your support helps ensure healthy food continues reaching local people and families who need it most.

A big thank you to Lactalis-Mainland Dairy for their generous donation of this pallet of cheese and butter!

Fresh dairy products are something we’re often short on, so receiving donations like this is incredibly valuable for our food relief partners and the communities they support.

We recently visited our incredible food relief partner, A Reasonable Christianity, to see where some of this donation was heading. Every Tuesday, they open their doors to provide food relief to anyone in the community who needs it but what they offer goes far beyond food.

While people may first come to A Reasonable Christianity for food relief, they’re also welcomed into a supportive community that helps people find connection, housing support, employment pathways and so much more.

We’re so grateful for the support of businesses helping us get good food to people who need it most.

Belinda has been a familiar face in our Bendigo Foodshare community for the past four years as Centre Director at Goodstart Early Learning Kangaroo Flat.

Over that time, Belinda helped establish the centre as one of our valued food relief partners, supporting local families and helping ensure food reaches people who need it most.

Through Goodstart Kangaroo Flat, more than 31,300kgs of food has made its way through their doors, helping provide over 60,000 meals to their community.

But behind those numbers is something even more important, the care, kindness and commitment Belinda has poured into her centre and community over the years.

At Bendigo Foodshare, we’re incredibly grateful to work alongside food partners like Belinda and the team at Goodstart who continue showing up for their communities every day.

As Belinda finishes up in her role at Goodstart, we’d like to sincerely thank her for everything she has contributed and wish her all the very best for what comes next. We’re so grateful our paths crossed.

This EOFY, your support helps us continue working alongside incredible local partners who are making a real difference in our community.

Why are local businesses so supportive of our community? We asked Karissa from Lead With Purpose why she’s chosen to support Bendigo Foodshare over the past few years.

At Lead With Purpose, Karissa works with leaders and businesses to create positive workplace cultures and help people step into leadership with confidence, clarity and purpose. Her approach to leadership is grounded in connection, care and community, values that align so strongly with the work we do at Bendigo Foodshare.

Karissa shared: “I believe that as leaders and business owners, we get to choose the impact we want to have on people and our local community, beyond the work we deliver.”

“Supporting Bendigo Foodshare is one way Lead With Purpose can contribute locally to an organisation that makes a real difference for people and families in our community.”

“I would encourage other local businesses to consider making a donation. It is such a simple way to use your business as a force for good, right here in our own community, and to create meaningful local impact.”

We’re incredibly grateful for businesses like Lead With Purpose who continue showing up for our community.

We recently kicked off our Cooking for Change program with participants from Bendigo & District Aboriginal Co-Operative (BDAC). The group began the program by spending time at our warehouse, learning more about the work we do across our organisation to address food security in Greater Bendigo.

From there, participants rolled up their sleeves and took part in Cooking for Change cooking sessions focused on cooking with purpose.
