Round the Bend Conservation Co-op

Round the Bend Conservation Co-op A community with a passion for actively protecting the bush through residential conservation. Located close to metropolitan Melbourne.

We live on the land sensitively and we work together to preserve it, learn about it and advocate for it. In this way, we achieve more as a group than as individuals. As a result, we live in a beautiful natural environment close to metropolitan Melbourne, where we and our children experience life in the bush in a community that values it. We re actively seeking like-minded people to join our community.

Good news for these Dunnarts. (Best pic of a Dunnart, too!)

(Best pic of a Dunnart, too!)

Artificial habitats are giving the Kangaroo Island dunnart a chance at recovery, after bushfires left them largely homeless.

Good move for our wildlife.

Good move for our wildlife.

In Nillumbik, we love our wildlife and we love our cats. For the protection of wildlife and the safety of cats, 24/7 cat confinement is now in place.

This means pet owners must now keep their cats on their property at all times unless they’re securely confined (for example, in a cat carrier or on a leash). Cats can still enjoy outdoor time within the property boundaries.

🐈📆 We know this is a big change for some owners and their cats. That’s why we’re giving everyone time to adjust, with a transition period in place until October 2027.

Over the next two years, we'll be focussing on support and education. We’ll be sharing lots of tips and guidance on how to create a safe, enriching, happy home for your cats.

We're here to help. Find out more and get support at: nillumbik.vic.gov.au/cat-confinement

What a beauty!

What a beauty!

When night falls in Victoria’s forests, the masked owl emerges. With a face shaped like a little love heart 🤍 this powerful bird has remarkable hearing that allows it to hunt its prey, even in complete darkness.

Masked owls hunt small mammals like rodents and possums. And here’s something wild: the females often hunt prey larger than the males! These owls rely on old growth forests filled with deep tree hollows to roost and nest. Every tree destroyed is one less home (or future home) for these owls, which are critically endangered in Victoria.

We need to stop corporations pillaging our parks and destroying wildlife through new national parks and protected areas.

Protecting Victoria’s tall forests means protecting the masked owl—one of the truly iconic species that makes these ecosystems irreplaceable.

IMPORTANT: Public consultation is open right now for DEECA’s strategic assessment under the EPBC Act for planned bushfire management works. 🔥🔥🔥

In its current form, the draft Terms of Reference risk enabling a Strategic Assessment that legitimises existing destructive practices rather than confronting them.

In VFA’s view, this Strategic Assessment risks becoming a pathway to obtain a broad federal ‘green tick’ for large-scale habitat destruction unless the Terms of Reference are substantially strengthened.

We've made a submission, and we want you to make one too! 🔥
