No surprises here folks.

Review those bushfire survival plans and prepare your property

Today, AFAC News released the Bushfire Seasonal Outlook for Spring. NSW experienced unseasonably warm conditions over winter, while rainfall has been variable. With parts of northern and south-eastern NSW receiving below-average rainfall, these areas are entering spring drier than usual.

Forecasts for early spring continue to point to below-average rainfall and unusually warm conditions with fuels expected to continue drying across NSW. The highest risk is expected to be in northern and south-eastern NSW, as these areas are already rapidly drying out. Forested areas in these regions are experiencing high fuel loads and are dense and well-connected, which is of particular concern.

While fire risk is expected to be elevated through early spring, rainfall prospects for late spring into early summer have shifted to a slightly wetter outlook, although some uncertainty remains.

If you live, work, or travel through bush fire-prone areas, ensure you are prepared. Review and discuss your bush fire survival plan so you know what to do if threatened by fire.

See a cloud of smoke in the distance?

On days with low winds land owners may spread lime in fields.

This process is commonly mistaken for fires. Please consider this possibility if you are calling in smoke sightings on calm days.

Now more then ever we ask for caution and diligence.

Over the past week many brigades have responded to escaped or un-notified burns.

Registering your pile burn is extremely important, this prevents allocation and dispatch of resources for non events.

Not Registering your burns can result in fines and legal action. It is your responsibility as the landowner or custodian to meet all expectations set by the NSW Government.

Please be prepared before you light up, this means having an adequate water supply and ability to extinguish the fire.

It is extremely important to supervise your pile burn from ignition to extinguishing. If you choose to burn the pile down to ash, you MUST continue to supervise the pile for atleast a week post burn.

Best practice is to follow NSWRFS pile standards available on the website, be prepared with adequate water supply, supervise from start to finish and wetting the burnt area down after the burn.

Lets continue to keep our landscape fire free and work as a team to prepare for the upcoming season.

hot and dry weather is expected to roll across the state in the coming months.

Grassfires are a massive concern in our area during this time, as many have already noted the grass dies off quickly.

We ask that everyone take extra caution when slashing, mowing or conducting hot works in paddocks. These can cause grassfires that expand rapidly and are hard to get control of.

As permit season comes to a close in September please make sure you check your burnt piles for any residual heat.
