πŸ’œ No Child Should Be Left Out.

Imagine watching your child sit on the sidelines while other children make friends. πŸ‘§πŸ‘¦

Imagine seeing them left out of activities, excluded from opportunities, and struggling to find a place where they belong. πŸ’”

For too many children with disability and developmental differences, this isn't imagination β€” it's everyday life.

πŸ“Š Across Australia, 72% of students with disability report being excluded from school activities and events, while 75% report being bullied.

For 50 years, Koorana has been helping children and families experience what every child deserves: ✨ belonging, participation and opportunity.

This tax time, we're raising funds to develop the Koorana Integrated Practice Toolkit β€” practical inclusion resources that will help educators and services create more welcoming and supportive environments for children of all abilities. 🀝

By sharing what works, we can help ensure more children experience what every child deserves: πŸ’œ belonging, participation and opportunity.

Last week, we were privileged to welcome Dr Mary Louise Hemmeter from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN (USA), to Koorana as part of our ongoing commitment to excellence in inclusive practice.
Koorana has invested in Pyramid Model implementation across all services in our organisation over the last 18 months.

Dr Hemmeter spent time with our teams, observing practice, participating in reflection with our team, and supporting our implementation of the Pyramid Model across our services.

Her visit offered a valuable opportunity to celebrate our progress, and the nurturing supports and environments Koorana’s services provide to children and families.

At Koorana, we are proud to be recognised as leaders in inclusive practice. Through our commitment to the Pyramid Model, we are strengthening the skills of educators, therapists, and family support professionals to foster children's social and emotional wellbeing, support meaningful participation, and build strong partnerships with families. Visits like these reinforce the importance of ongoing learning, reflection, and collaboration in achieving high-quality outcomes for children and families.

A sincere thank you to Dr Mary Louise Hemmeter for her expertise, guidance, and encouragement. We look forward to continuing this important work together.

Why choose the Pyramid Model?

The Pyramid Model is more than a frameworkβ€”it's a neuro-affirming approach that helps create early childhood environments where children, families, and educators flourish together.

Join Koorana's Pyramid Model Training and discover the benefits of:

✨ Stronger relationships
Learn how to build trust, respond to children's cues, and create emotionally safe spaces where every child feels connected and valued.
✨ Inclusive, strengths-based practice
Move beyond deficit-based thinking and embrace approaches that celebrate neurodivergent communication, sensory needs, and diverse learning styles.
✨ Reduced behavioural stress
Create proactive, supportive environments that reduce dysregulation and help children succeed.
✨ Confident, empowered educators
Gain practical tools, strategies, and confidence to support children in ways that are meaningful, effective, and sustainable.
✨ Better outcomes for children
Support emotional regulation, resilience, social connection, and self-advocacyβ€”without asking children to change who they are.
✨ Stronger family partnerships
Build trust with families through respectful, collaborative, and culturally responsive communication.
✨ A cohesive team approach
Develop shared language, shared strategies, and shared confidence across your service or organisation.

At Koorana Child & Family Services, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Canterbury Leagues Club for their generous $10,000 contribution and ongoing support.

Their partnership helps us continue delivering high-quality early intervention and allied health services to children and families across our community, creating opportunities for children to learn, grow and thrive in the environments that matter most to them.

Thanks to this support, we have been able to refresh and enhance resources used by our mobile, home-based therapy teams.

As Koorana's Head of Early Intervention and Allied Health, Rial Kidson, shared: "For children, this means therapy feels fun, engaging, and motivating, and is experienced as play rather than treatment. Overall, sessions become more responsive, collaborative, and child-led."

We are incredibly grateful for Canterbury League Club's commitment to local children and families. Together, we are helping build more inclusive communities where all children have the opportunity to reach their full potential. πŸ’œ

As part of National Reconciliation Week, we are proud to continue sharing parts of our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and the meaningful journey behind it β€οΈπŸ’›πŸ–€
At Koorana, reconciliation is more than a commitment β€” it is a journey of learning, listening, reflection and action that we walk together.

Featured throughout our RAP is the powerful artwork of Bianca Caldwell, a proud Wiradjuri woman, founder of Wiradjuri Dreaming, and passionate cultural educator and artist.
Through storytelling, cultural workshops and vibrant artworks, Bianca creates opportunities for children, educators and communities to connect with Aboriginal culture in meaningful, engaging and lasting ways.
We are honoured to work alongside Bianca as we continue embedding Aboriginal perspectives across Koorana and fostering deeper connection to culture, community and Country.

We invite our community to explore our RAP, discover the story behind this beautiful artwork, and join us on our ongoing reconciliation journey βœ¨πŸ’œ
