Umbrella Community Care

Umbrella Community Care In 2000, a group of dedicated people from multicultural backgrounds had a dream. Today, Umbrella Inc.

Umbrella is the most diverse multicultural aged care provider in Western Australia, supporting inclusive, culturally safe care for older people and communities. They wanted to create an independent, community-based organisation to look after their people. They wanted to be inclusive of all communities and to have everyone under one UMBRELLA. provides services to more than 500 clients from 52 diffe

rent countries in the Perth metropolitan area and Peel region. We are offering over 20 various innovative and culturally appropriate aged care services under one umbrella of quality and personalised care. All of the Umbrella programs and services, including Home and Community Care and the new Home Care Packages are designed to assist people to remain living independently in their homes by giving them the flexibility and choice of how the care and support will be provided. We identify and acknowledge each client's specific needs and recognize gender, age, interest and cultural background. We match support staff with each person so the client can receive high-quality care from the same staff member every time.

In May, our care finder team had the opportunity to present at the care finder Forum organised by WA Primary Health Alliance. The presentation explored the client journey, practice learnings, outcomes achieved, key system barriers, and reflections for organisations working with highly vulnerable and complex clients on a daily basis.

It was also a great opportunity to showcase the important work care finders do in supporting older people experiencing vulnerability, abuse, homelessness risk, and difficulties navigating complex systems.

The presentation generated strong engagement and discussion among providers across the sector, and the team received positive feedback from both WAPHA and the of Health regarding the presentation approach and content shared.

On May 14th, some of our staff and volunteers had the privilege of attending the West Australian Ballet’s Community Dress Rehearsal of Dracula at His Majesty's Theatre, Perth.

The WA Ballet’s Community Dress Rehearsal program opens its doors to people who may be experiencing disadvantage, isolation, or hardship, ensuring that the magic of the arts is accessible to everyone in our community; with the performances aiming to give inspiration, respite and connection to community, as well as the many social and emotional wellbeing benefits that arts engagements provide.

We are incredibly grateful to the West Australian Ballet for their generosity and for creating such an inclusive, diverse, and welcoming environment. Thank you for giving our community a night to remember! 💖✨

When a partner, friend or loved one becomes very unwell or is approaching the later stages of life, you often need to make important decisions.

We are inviting the LGBTIQA+ community to join us to talk about Care, Family, and Planning for the Future.

Everyone has different ways of talking about end-of-life concerns, some talk openly, while others may find it difficult.

We want to hear from the LGBTIQA+ community, your needs and what matters most to you.

Umbrella Multicultural Community Care and Palliative Care WA are undertaking this project to understand the needs of your community and ensure information is provided in a clear and accessible way.

Recently our Umbrella volunteers had the opportunity to attend “A Child of Our Time” during National Volunteer Week, thanks to the generosity of the West Australian Opera and UWA. 💙

The event was an incredibly meaningful experience for our volunteers and the ACVVS team. For some of our volunteers, it was their very first time attending the opera, making the evening even more special and memorable. They felt recognised, valued, and appreciated for the incredible contribution they make to the community through volunteering.

The evening created not only a beautiful cultural experience, but also a strong sense of inclusion, connection, belonging, and appreciation. It was wonderful to see volunteers connecting, enjoying the performance together, and being celebrated during National Volunteer Week.

A heartfelt thank you to the West Australian Opera and UWA for making this opportunity possible and for recognising the important role volunteers play within our communities. ✨

The Bridging the Gaps Project continues to connect with diverse communities across Perth, most recently through a community session with the Multicultural Women’s Friendship Group in Belmont.

Cancer Council WA presented information about its Supportive Care Services, followed by an engaging and lively discussion with participants.

Through these sessions, the project aims to better understand why people from different cultural backgrounds may be unaware of available support services and to identify any barriers to accessing them.

A special thank you to Sabah Suleiman, leader of the group, for hosting the session, and to Jess and Adele from Cancer Council WA for sharing their knowledge and expertise.

Together, we are working to build awareness, improve access, and ensure support services are inclusive and accessible for all members of our community ❤️

One week to go!

As we approach World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, we're creating space for something that doesn't happen often enough: listening to older people themselves.

On 11 June, members of EAAA's SPARK panel — Margaret Crothers, Craig Hubbard and Cathy Chong — will share their perspectives on ageing, ageism, elder abuse and the changes they believe are needed.

Their insights remind us why older people's voices must be at the centre of decisions that affect them. Join us here https://bit.ly/4dyHtqL
