Three years after Cyclone Jasper, the flood debris is still impacting our reefs, rivers and surrounding country.

In our latest cleanup film, we share the story of working alongside Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation and Douglas Shire Council to remove flood debris and help protect the wetlands, reef and river systems of our community.

This work is both physically and mentally demanding, but the support and relief from the community make it worthwhile. It’s powerful to see people coming together—and to know that this work is finally helping restore and protect our natural environment.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed, supported the cleanup and continues to care for Country. 🌿🌊

Today was a bit different. We were asked by Douglas Shire Council to help with some houses that got devastated in cyclone Jasper’ floods. So we headed into 3 different properties to sift through the trashed sheds of these houses. Water is one thing but the mud deposited on, in and around everything was incredible. 4.5 truck loads, the equivalent of 24 cubic meters of debris removed and some very happy residents. Good to be able to give back to those in need.

Amazing day on the Daintree River for Douglas Shire Council We were joined by Jeffery and Brett from the Jabalbina Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation and removed 1,280kg. Sad thing is we found multiple places that need a lot more work before wet season. Tomorrow we hit Bloomfield River. Ocean Crusaders

Big day on Magazine Island in Port Douglas for Douglas Shire Council removing 1,040kg. Stunning places to be cleaning but plenty of junk from previous weather events. Our 6 day program in the Family & Barnard Islands is complete with 1,740kg removed from Paradise for Queensland Environment Huge thanks to our volunteers, the Mandubarra Aboriginal Land & Sea Inc. and Cassowary Coast Regional Council for their efforts and support. Final day of our Family Islands clean up for Queensland Environment saw us finally attack the east coast of Dunk Island. A boat that is too big and too heavy for us but in hundreds of pieces (we’ll get you next year), heavy ropes and bottles and polystyrene in every nook. Huge thanks to our volunteers for an amazing day. Final weights tomorrow. Ocean Crusaders
