We are looking for Italian-speaking volunteers to join our volunteer program. This is a wonderful opportunity to change the life of an isolated Italian senior living at home or in residential care.

If you can commit to a one-hour visit every fortnight for six months, we would love to hear from you.

And it's a wrap!

Over the past two years, the Hub brought together over 500 residents of Bayswater and Belmont aged 55+, hailing from 21 countries, 85% of whom spoke a second language at home.

Participant survey results showed that 90% of Hub participants improved their mental health by joining the many and varied activities and 88% made new friends.

We are delighted that some of the programs are continuing under the leadership of volunteers. A huge thank you goes to the project coordinator Evelyn Burry who did an excellent job of delivering the project and will be sadly missed by all as she leaves to pursue her new teaching career.

If you are interested in supporting the economic empowerment of women and girls, you may be interested in attending an event being hosted by United in Diversity and Ashiana Humanitarian Network.

The free event will support the strengthening of social networks that empower women from multicultural, refugee and migrant backgrounds to achieve economic independence.

It takes place on Saturday, 3 August 2024 from 10am to 3pm at the Victoria Park Community Centre and is exclusively for women and girls. Light refreshments and music will be on offer.

The closing event for our wonderful Umbrella Multicultural Village Hub project was held on Saturday at our social support centre in Belmont and it was a bittersweet gathering for us all.

Over the past two years, the Hub brought together over 300 participants aged 55+ from 21 different countries, 85% of whom speak a second language at home. Most were from the Belmont, Bayswater and Morley areas.

A special thank you to Co-Connect WA for their partnership and support working with our Mandarin and Vietnamese-speaking participants.

We were honoured to have Member for Belmont Cassie Rowe MLA and Mayor Robert Rossi - City of Belmont join us for this special occasion.

Thank you to everyone who participated in, volunteered for and supported the project. The results of our closing participant survey showed that 90% of participants reported improved mental health and 88% made new friends.

We are also incredibly grateful to the Australian Department of Social Services for funding the 12 Village Hubs across Australia (of which we were just one) and to Independent Living Assessment for their governance and administration of the Hubs.

As our Multicultural Village Hub project draws to a close, please take a moment to watch this brief video about the impact of the Village Hub project across Australia.

Our hub was one of 12 Hubs established across the country and one of the three in Western Australia, all funded by the Department of Social Services.

If you were involved in our Umbrella Multicultural Village Hub, either as a participant or as a volunteer, please join us for a closing community celebration from 2pm to 5pm on Saturday, 8 June 2024 at 39 Abernethy Road, Belmont.

Our Multicultural Village Hub project will wrap up on 30 June when its funding from the Australian Government comes to an end.

Over 500 older residents of Perth's eastern suburbs participated in the project over two years, 92% of whom were born overseas and 85% of whom speak a language other than English at home.

They hailed from 21 different countries, with the largest language groups being Vietnamese and Mandarin.

We are gathering to celebrate the project's success and thank the wonderful volunteers who helped ensure it. All are welcome.
