Bellinger River RSL Sub-Branch

Bellinger River RSL Sub-Branch We aim to have a catch up on the second Saturday every month. Please note that business meetings are not held every month.

Please contact [email protected] to confirm dates and location of activities The NSW Branch of the Returned Sailors and Soldiers Imperial League of Australia was inaugurated in 1917. There have been several name changes over time with the organisation now known as the Returned and Services League of Australia. The Bellinger River sub Branch was founded in December 1918. To serve the

interests of the returned veterans of WW1 and the families who had suffered the death of a loved one. The Mission of the League has not changed since incorporation, that is, to ensure that programs are in place for the well-being, care, compensation and commemoration of serving and ex-service Defence Force members and their dependents; and promote Government and community awareness of the need for a secure, stable and progressive Australia.

Tuesday mornings at the gym are quickly becoming one of the highlights of the week for the Bellinger River RSL sub-Branch ☕💪

After training, we gather for a coffee catch up at Raleigh Coffee and Eats from 10am, where veterans and family members are always welcome. It’s a chance to connect with community, support one another, share a few laughs, and simply enjoy good company.

This week turned into a bit of a bush-band jam session with a banjo, uke, electric uke, Russian domra, and a Portuguese cavaquinho all making an appearance. Add coffee, singing, and plenty of laughs and you’ve got a pretty good Tuesday morning recipe.

This happens every Tuesday, so if you’re keen to come along, check out our Facebook events page for all the details.

If you’re looking for connection, conversation, or just a decent coffee with good people, come along and join us. You don’t have to do life solo when there’s a chair at the table waiting for you. 🇦🇺

A big thank you to our members Kathy and Brian Mortimer for representing the Bellinger River RSL Sub-Branch at ANZAC services in Woolgoolga last week.

Kathy and Brian attended the Woolgoolga Retirement Home service on Friday, where Brian shared reflections from visiting Gallipoli on two occasions, including the Centenary of ANZAC in 2015 - a meaningful connection for those in attendance.

The visit was also an opportunity to support our member John Cleaver, a former National Serviceman, and his wife Elaine, an Affiliate of our Sub-Branch and former President of our Women’s Auxiliary.

It’s always special to see our members taking the time to connect, share stories, and honour service within the wider community.

It was wonderful to see such a strong turnout, with so many coming together to share in the post-service lunch. These moments of connection and conversation are what our Sub-Branch is all about.

A big thank you to Diggers for their hospitality and for looking after everyone so well.

We hope you enjoy a few snapshots from the afternoon - a great chance to come together, reflect and connect.

This morning’s ANZAC Day Dawn Service in Bellingen was well attended, with the rain easing just in time for the ceremony.
Thank you to our new President of the Bellinger River RSL Sub-Branch, Emma Palmer, for leading the service as MC.

We also acknowledge Michael Kemp MP, Member for Oxley, for attending the service.

A special moment at the close saw a pair of kookaburras joining in during the Australian National Anthem as the sun rose.

We also thank the 1st Bellingen Scout Group for providing a community breakfast, and the SES volunteers who assisted with road closures.

If you are able to join us, the Main Service and March will follow this morning. Formation begins at 8:45am in front of BCU, with the service commencing at 9:00am.

Bellinger River RSL Sub-Branch | Sport & Recreation

The Bellinger River RSL Sub-Branch has been getting fit together at Bellingen Fitness Gym in Raleigh.

Thanks to funding support from RSL NSW, veterans and their families from the Bellingen area—and beyond—now have access to professionally led fitness classes twice a week.

These inclusive classes cater to veterans and their families of all ages and abilities, providing a safe and respectful environment where participants can be physically challenged while feeling supported. The program promotes physical and mental wellbeing, social connection, and the strong sense of camaraderie that RSL communities are known for.

📅 Classes: Tuesday & Saturday mornings
🏋️ Focus: Strength and cardiovascular training
☕ Bonus: Tuesday sessions are often followed by coffee and a chat

If you or your family members would like to join us, please send us a message—we’d love to welcome you.

A big thank you to our partner Bellingen Fitness for their ongoing support.
