⚽️ Match Report: Bellingen FC vs Sawtell Scorpians - North Coast Football HIT105.5 Men's Premier League
Bats Stunned by Scorpion's Sting!
In Round 7 of the Men’s Premier League, Sawtell hosted Bellingen at the Coffs Coast Synthetics following a very wet week across the region.
Before kick-off, the local football community paused to remember a Northern Storm player and friend whose passing has deeply affected everyone involved in the game. Our heartfelt condolences go to Mitch Weeden’s family, friends and teammates ❤️
With rain falling once again, the match got underway and Sawtell struck early. Tye Murphy was brought down in the box, and Jack Rann calmly converted the resulting penalty after just four minutes to give the Scorpions a 1-0 lead.
Sawtell controlled much of the opening period, but Bellingen gradually worked their way back into the contest. Freddy, Rio, Jack and Jai combined well through midfield to create several opportunities, with Freddy coming closest after a brilliant solo run ended with a shot drifting narrowly wide.
The Scorpions doubled their advantage before halftime when Luke France flicked on a long ball to Keeden Corliss, whose effort found the net via the post despite Isaac getting a strong hand to it.
The Bats emerged strongly after the break, led by Dash Carty in midfield, while Rio Prieto and Aiddan Saggus created chances and forced several corners. Adam Marks and Gus were also solid in defence as the contest became far more even.
However, Sawtell struck again on the counterattack to extend the lead to 3-0. Bellingen responded through Duke Easman, who scored from close range after Dash’s shot was saved following more excellent work down the wing from Morgan Sherry-Dadd and Aiddan.
The Bats continued to press late in the match, with Aiddan rattling the crossbar and another Dash effort striking the woodwork, but Sawtell held firm for a 3-1 win in an entertaining, high-intensity contest.
Bellingen return home next Saturday to host Maclean at Connell Park, with kick-off at 5pm. Come down and support the Shire Boys as they look to return to winning ways.
