7 years ago my beautiful friend Belle took on the role of custodian of this special land in Yaegl Country.

Without a partner she has held the land and hosted 100s of volunteers visiting the land to do permaculture and land improvement projects.

We’ve talked about doing Wildschool here for more than 5 of those years. Last year Belle completed the online training of WildSchool and now the land is ready with all the infrastructure we need to host WildSchool on this beautiful Land.

I am super proud of Belle for holding this project down - the land is looking amazing after the hectic fires and floods since 2019.

Both Belle and I look forward to hosting 12 awesome humans here for the 25-26 regenerative leadership residential.

We did it! 13 cousins spent the first week of their holidays in on their own land that was settled by their great grandparents!!

The mission was to help the kids have a sense of custodianship of the land as the next gen of caretakers through the lense of the 5 Sacred Pathways of

The thought they were gonna be on a diet 😂, but then they said how much they loved the food. Dumped the empty carb snacks and ate heaps of good organic instead

They thought I was gonna make them do survival challenges but when they got caught in the rain they made their own shelter when I wasn’t around 😂 and they went back to their own spring multiple times to wash or play , they made and tended the fire and cooked some of their meals themselves. They sat around carving instead together without prompting

They thought they were rebelling against me 😂when my coyote mission was to get them off screens , out of the house and in the bush playing safely without adult supervision. (They didn’t realise ) 😂 rebelling against the queen of rebellion is pretty funny I reckon.

They all made books at the end without prompting and recorded the songs, tbe compost recipe and the list of trees we planted ..

We sang “who are the wild ones” until they had it down on the first morning and they were singing it every chance they got. And we did gratitude often when things were getting hectic ..

These kids have their own village, aunties and uncles and grandparents who care about generational legacy and the beautiful land they’ve inherited.

We’re gonna do it again and again. Thanks for trusting me with your kids and thanks to our dear Masey (grandma) for holding the fort with me ..

Today we learned about the history of the land: how most of the mountain top was cleared of its magnificent cedars and forest for cattle grazing .

That the Forest the kids can see now wasn’t there when their parents were kids and has been growing back along with all the exotic species that have arrived with European settlement .

We started with understanding permaculture zones and identifying food trees , native trees and exotic trees already on the land.

Then we hand collected manure from the neighbours paddock for composting and learned how to tend and care for the established citrus .

Followed by a much deserved swim in the closest little waterfall/spring.

We did sit spots, played eagle eye, started turning all our senses on, big big swing rope fun and played spotlight after dinner.

Everyone pulled their carving knives out around the fire without any prompting and naturally started to ask for next steps and better wood to use ..

And then, a big feed of lamb sausages from grandpas farm up the road and mega bolognaise made by Billa for dinner..

Happy kids all tucking in by 7:30pm in their swags around the fire…

Of course the day would not be complete without everyone getting leaches, an ant 🐜 attack on one kid who sat on a nest , various punctures in our feet and a good ol poo fight in the paddock . These kids are cousins so they’ve all grown up together and they get in great - the age range is 5-16.. (oh and plus Pai of course)

Tomorrow we’ll be planting a bunch of new citrus for grandma and making compost so we know how to make humus and restore the topsoil .

Im having fun, I’m pretty sure they are too ..

Here’s what’s happening this Easter holidays : 14 cousins between 5 and 15 years old are Inheriting their great-grandparents farm.

We are running a private holiday wildschool program for them to learn how to connect and take care of the land and waters they are stewarding.

The best thing I’ve ever heard was 7 year old Patrick’s response to this happening :

“I wanna do it so bad so I know what to do!”

This is a family I call my own family, and I love visiting these folks and this farm , so it’s my way to give back to land and people I love..

But it made me realise how much sense it makes to bring wildschool programs to you , to your families and to your land rather than trying to get people together at event venues.. and my students are super keen to make this happen as well so we can bring a team ..

If you have a bunch of people or families on the wrangling journey of trying to live together and tend land together , then we can make a custom 5 day program just for your context and come to you..

The intentions are always good with these projects! But people so often don’t know how to bring it all together inna strategic way that everyone feels empowered by…

REGEN AND WATERSHED STEWARDSHIP.

Our ANNUAL LEADERSHIP PROGRAM will start at the new moon in April with a new HYBRID format to make it more accessible for families and people who live on the land already and have commitments at home.

The total program will be delivered online weekly for 35 weeks (8 months) with 6 optional in-person events (the dates above).

The in-person immersions will be held on Gumbaynggirr Country , Bellingen.

WILD SCHOOL IS FOR ADULTS (You can totally request to bring children or your whole family to the immersions - great nature connection and community time for everyone)

How good are medicinal foods?
Cacao coffee and mushrooms all grow in the forest natively.

And forests are the super producers of - so let’s call this post

FOOD AS MEDICINE
Mondays , always.

After working with compost and humus for 30 years I often mused that it would be good for us to ingest that s**t! The black gold , it looks like hash when you get it right , and it’s truly a marvel that science can only speculate about since they can’t actually figure it out.

And then, someone clever harvested 40,000 year old humic acid and had the same idea that it would be good for us..

So here’s the uplevel for the ..

The mushroom blend I made js (only the pure stuff from )

I put all this in the plunger and steep like a normal coffee , then blend with organic unsalted butter , pour over ice cubes and top with fresh whipped vanilla cream. (Maple syrup optional in the cream)

It’s keto, vegan, high fat , detoxing and adaptogenic .. it’s from the forest. Oh, ode to the forest. 🙏🏽

And With Respects to the ancient people’s where these foods originate and to those who grow them organically and regeneratively, still.
