All women and children have a right to live a life free from violence, coercive control and abuse. However in Australia,1 in 3 women experience physical or sexual violence, or both, perpetrated by someone they know. That is a very glum and sobering statistic. Coercive control, when someone repeatedly hurts, scares or isolates another person to control them, is now also recognised in NSW as a criminal offence. It is domestic abuse and it can cause serious harm to women and children. Domestic and family violence doesn't usually end until action is taken to stop it. In fact, it often escalates. One woman every week dies of intimate partner violence in Australia.
