Here's something every exhausted parent deserves to hear.

Attachment research suggests you only need to respond positively to your child's needs 40 per cent of the time to build secure attachment. Alicia McAleer, our Practice Specialist – Child, Youth & Family, shares that stat because tough days are part of parenting, not a failure of it.

In this article, we cover the simple things that matter most: predictable routines, naming feelings out loud, letting kids try hard things and looking after yourself too, because you can't pour from an empty cup.

How does separation affect children?

If you're facing separation, this question probably weighs on you more than any other. Alicia McAleer, our Practice Specialist – Child, Youth & Family, wants parents to hear this first: it's not the separation itself that causes the deepest harm. It's ongoing conflict, and children feeling caught in the middle.

Her advice covers what children need at every age, how to have the conversation and why repair matters more than perfection.

✨ A beautiful story of generosity that spans decades!

In this clip from 100 Years of Working Together, the third film in our centenary series, Sarah Samild uncovers the remarkable history of Dr. R Bonamy.

📖 Uncovering stories from our past as we celebrate 100 years! 🎉

This moment is from 100 Years of Working Together, the third film in our centenary series.

Watch as Sarah Samild sits down with our CEO, Graeme O'Connor, to discuss a fantastic piece of Interrelate history. In the 1930s, Canon Hammond of HammondCare showed incredible generosity by offering free board and rent to our first Director, Percy Kenny. This community partnership lasted right into the 1950s!

As Graeme says, it's the 'generosity of passionate people' that has enabled our organisation to be here today.

📽 Our third centenary film is here.
100 Years of Working Together is about the people who chose to help, and the partnerships that have held for a century.

Watch as Sarah Samild and CEO Graeme O'Connor look back at Canon Hammond of HammondCare, who offered free board and rent to our first Director in the 1930s.

Then to 1964, when the late Dr Ron Bonamy, a local GP in Gymea, handed us rent-free premises under his practice, an arrangement that ran for 26 years.

The film also introduces Kutanya, our First Nations staff group, and the members who talk about connection, belonging and what working together means to them.

On Friday 31 July we mark 100 years at our Centenary Cocktail Gala in Sydney, celebrating the people and partnerships that shaped this organisation.

⚖️ In the early 1960s, Interrelate became one of the first organisations approved to offer counselling under the Matrimonial Causes Act – the moment relationship counselling became a formal profession in Australia.

It's one of many firsts. Our support for men has evolved from the Guide to Virile Manhood, first published in 1927, to today's Respectful Man Program. What began as instruction has become conversation.

The same is true in our school services, where s*x education books gave way to vinyl records, films and today's digital programs – new technology, same purpose.

This moment is from 100 Years of Innovation, the second film in our centenary series.

Cringe Quest came together because three very different organisations decided to work on the same problem. Interrelate has been teaching young people about relationships and health since 1926. Modibodi has spent years shifting how we talk about periods publicly. Activate Studios builds games with a social purpose.

Together, they built a free, choose-your-own-adventure game that teaches kids aged 8 to 12 about periods – in a way that actually feels like something they'd choose to play.

It's free. It needs no sign-up. And it's built for every kid in the classroom.

We're proud to have spent last week getting out into the community for NAIDOC Week, supporting this year's theme, 50 Years of Deadly. We took part in 14 events across the communities we serve.

Each photo here represents one of many valuable conversations we had with community members along the way. We're proud to be an organisation that turns up, listens and walks alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Connection gives us so much, especially a sense of belonging.

This week is NAIDOC Week, and in this clip from 100 Years of Working Together, the third film in our centenary series, our First Nations team members discuss the importance of Kutanya.

This group brings our First Nations staff together to connect, talk through shared issues and keep traditions like the keepara alive.

As Janet says, working together means 'first and foremost, coming together. It's walking together hand in hand.'
