Companions23.org Raising Awareness, Taking Action, Fundraising for a Cure, Advocating to Improve Care for People with Welcome to our Page. Help them get through their day.

Our fundraising goal is to raise $1 Million to help find the cure for Dementia and Parkinson's Disease. Dementia is now Australia's 2nd biggest killer and many people with Parkinson's develop Lewy Body Dementia. People living with these cruel diseases lose a whole lot more than their memories. They lose their lives - slowly - and it really really hurts to watch a loved one deteriorate in this way.

It can take months or years and is very heartbreaking for all. We also advocate for people living in nursing homes. Whilst thieir physical needs are met by the staff, we believe that their emotional needs are not. In most cases, and from our own experience, nurses do not have the time to provide one on one care. We believe companionship is greatly needed for these elderly people - someone to simply be present for them, and be there for that person and that person alone. Hold their hand, tell them a story, make them laugh, give them a drink or something to eat. People with dementia should not be cast aside because they still think, feel, hear, see and have emotions. To think they 'don't understand' is a misconception. Everyone deserves love, respect and dignity.
