Bega Valley Advocates For Timor-Leste

Bega Valley Advocates For Timor-Leste BVATL is part of the Social Justice Advocates of the Sapphire Coast (Inc.). Since 2004 programs have assisted the people of Barique-Natarbora.

Meetings are held at 10am at Bega Uniting Church on the first Saturday of February, May, August & November Bega Valley Advocates for Timor-Leste is a small volunteer NGO with a friendship link to the Barique-Natarbora Sub District in Timor Leste. This subdistrict comprises five sucos (villages) located on the south coast and hills of East Timor. It is isolated and poorly serviced by roads, governm

ent services and NGOs (local or international). All volunteers travelling to East Timor pay their own way, and all monies donated are used to directly support the communities. Current programs include education, women's projects and music. See Belun Malu Choir FB page for more information.

On his recent visit, Dave Gallan had the pleasure of attending the graduation ceremony in Baucau where he also caught up with some of our current scholarship holders. He also met with some of our graduate teachers and saw the infrastructure work in Upper Manehat (septic tank and new roof) which has been funded by the local branch of Bendigo Bank in the Bega Valley.

Congratulations to our scholarship holders who recently graduated at the Baucau Institute.
