One of the things many people don’t realise about CWA is that alongside community connection, fundraising and practical support, we are also a strong advocacy organisation.
CWA members have a long history of identifying issues affecting women, children, families and regional communities, then taking those concerns forward through resolutions that can influence government policy at both State and Federal level.
This year, members across Victoria will be discussing and voting on resolutions including:
• stronger action on gambling advertising
• the introduction of a Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme (Clare’s Law)
• protections for landholders affected by compulsory land acquisition for transmission infrastructure
These conversations matter, because they come directly from the experiences and concerns of local communities.
One of the organisations being supported at State Conference this year is DV Safe Phone, which repurposes old mobile phones for victims of domestic violence.
If you have an old mobile phone sitting in a drawer, consider donating it, get in touch and we'll take it with us. A small action can make a very real difference.
Being an active CWA member means having the opportunity to contribute to conversations that reach well beyond our local branch — while still supporting practical community initiatives close to home.
