🎖️ Congratulations Mark Geary!
Mark Geary has been awarded the Emergency Services Medal in the 2026 Australia Day Honours, recognising his 29 years of dedicated service with Gosnells SES and the broader Western Australian community.
Since joining the unit in 1997, Mark has held numerous leadership roles including Local Manager (2007–2012) and, in the years since, Deputy Local Manager, Training Manager and Section Leader. He is a highly respected Trainer and Assessor, qualified across multiple disciplines including storm damage, USAR Cat 1, BGR, and on/off-road driving, and regularly volunteers his time to support training across metropolitan and regional WA.
Mark has also made significant contributions to emergency management beyond the unit through his involvement with the City of Gosnells LEMC, the SES Consultative Committee, and as the SES Volunteer Representative on the FESA/DFES Emergency Services Levy Capital Grants Committee.
Over the past 18 years, Mark has been deeply involved in the National Disaster Rescue Challenge, progressing from competitor to Team Coach, Scenario Manager, and most recently Team Leader for the WA team at the 2024 competition in NSW.
Balancing this alongside a demanding career, local government service, and raising a young family, Mark’s leadership, mentorship and commitment go well beyond what is expected of a volunteer.
👏 A truly well-deserved honour. Congratulations Mark — we’d follow you anywhere.
