Our guest speaker at the May general meeting was Barbie Mitchel. Her quilts were inspiring and we all enjoyed hearing about her creative journey.

We also had some beautiful quilts displayed around the hall from our members and here are two of them.

Bay Quilters Contemporary Group meets every two months, and this year the focus is on design. In April’s meeting twelve members brought in their blocks based on the drawing game ‘Exquisite Corpse’ that was February’s task. Each member had made three pieces, a head, body and legs/tail.

They were then randomly swapped and these three photos are the result.

The plan is to now put them together into a quilt.

What a fun and creative project and the detail on these blocks are fabulous. Do you have a favourite?

On the 12th of April Bay Quilters donated 120 quilts to the victims of the January/February 2026 fires in the Central Victorian areas of Harcourt, Sutton and Longwood.

Pictured are four committee members presenting the quilts to Fire Chief Andrew of Harcourt Fire Brigade, other members of the fire department, and their families.

These quilts are being distributed to other fire stations in the impacted area for families that have unfortunately lost their homes.

A big thank you to Susanne, our Quilts From The Heart committee member for coordinating this tremendous effort, and for all the members who donated.

Every year Bay Quilters has a Summer Challenge. This year we were given piece of red fabric for inspiration, (and to be included in the block) and instructed to make a ten inch square with the theme of Hope.

These blocks were sewn into a quilt which will be donated to Impact for Women to celebrate their 20th Anniversary, and will hang in the entrance to their facility.

The three individual blocks pictured won the challenge this year. Congratulations Bronwyn S. Mary L. And Tricia D. And a big thank you to the ladies who put the gorgeous quilt together. Great team effort!

Bay Quilters Contemporary Group meets every two months, and this year the focus is on design. The year started with a challenge to make a head, body and legs/tail based off the drawing game ‘Exquisite Corpse’ whilst developing skills such as drawing and raw edge appliqué. The blocks, or ‘body parts’ will be swapped at the next meeting. I can’t wait to see the final results.

As we head into the craziness of the Christmas season, it seems like it was months instead of a few short weeks that Bay Quilters had our last gathering for the year. The hall was filled with Christmas decorations and cheer, and the walls festooned with quilts that members had completed during the year.

This quilt by Monique of gorgeous reds on a black and white background caught my eye. The pattern is Indah Blossoms by Carolyn Murfitt which Monique resized.

What a gorgeous display of quilts we had at our monthly meeting for October - and how different they all look with the different fabrics!

This year members had an opportunity to participate in a beginners quilt series of classes. Monique, one of our members, designed this quilt and wrote the pattern. She didn’t want to make a traditional sampler, but wanted a quilt that taught a range of piecing skills. There was even a class on quilting and binding.

A big thank you to Monique, Marg and Emma who donated their time and skills to run these classes. Thank you to the members that participated. And what beautiful quilts were produced.
