Scouts a-plenty, leaders needed!
A queue of youth wanting to get into Scouting is forming, and adult volunteers are needed to support them at Beaudesert Scouts
“I’ve got applications waiting for Cubs and Joeys under 11,” said Leader-in-Charge Sharon. “What these young people need are some leaders.”
Beaudesert Scouts have adventurous program plans for youth in 2026 and aims to develop confidence, resilience and leadership in young Australians.
“We have a big need for adults to act as guides and mentors,” Sharon said “There’s training provided and it can be nationally recognised through Scouts’ registered RTO, from Cert II all the way to Diploma level if that’s what volunteers want.
“Scouts offers a great opportunity to support your own childrens’ development as well as others in the community,” said local GP and longtime Scouts supporter Dr Michael Rice at a recent Chamber of Commerce meeting in Beaudesert. “I’ve been in Scouting since the 1970s, and I’ve learned skills that I’ve used at home and at work and in the community. I’ve been around the country and around the world with Scouting.”
As part of his own Scout leader training Dr Rice added Cert IVs in Leadership and Frontline Management to his CV, along with Remote First Aid.
Learning through the Scouts Australia RTO is different to TAFE or other RTOs because Scouts has more hands-on than classroom learning.
“We also need Committee members like Chair, Secretary and Treasurer to support the youth program and there’s training for that as well,” she added. “Sometimes that suits a retired person with skill they’d like to maintain while ‘giving back’ to their community.”
Scouts encourages the physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual development of young people to become responsible citizens and members of their local, national and international communities.
Beaudesert Scouts aged 11-14 meet in school terms at the Nev Spillane Scout Den at the corner of Eaglesfield & Hart Streets. With more adult volunteers, Joey and Cub Scouts from 5-11yo will be able to get onboard as well. Interested adults and youth can enrol at www.scoutsqld.com.au before coming along.
