Belgravia Leisure golf venues across Victoria are driving meaningful impact through Golf for Good, a fundraising initiative founded by the Belgravia Foundation, focused on breaking down barriers and making golf more inclusive for people of all abilities.

Recent events at Spring Park and Yarrambat Park Golf Course brought communities together to support the Belgravia Foundation’s mission of creating accessible, connected and active lives for all.

From all abilities coaching and inclusive tournaments to women’s programs and pathways for people experiencing disadvantage, Golf for Good is transforming golf into a platform for connection and inclusion.

With strong community support, including 30+ participants at Spring Park and over 300 attendees across Yarrambat’s February events, the initiative continues to build momentum, proving the powerful role sport can play in creating positive social change.

Belgravia Foundation was proud to support the Schools Out Youth Pool Extravaganza on December 18, bringing 350 young people from 15 local schools together at Whittlesea Swim Centre for an afternoon of fun, connection and celebration, more than double the previous year’s turnout!

The event was developed in response to the Active Whittlesea Community Engagement Plan 2023–2028, which recognises youth as an underrepresented group in community recreation.

A huge thank you to the Whittlesea Secondary College student leadership team for helping in shaping the program as well as local businesses, volunteers and community partners who helped create a vibrant day full of pool games, music, sunshine and a classic sausage sizzle.

We’re committed to supporting programs like the Schools Out Youth Pool Extravaganza that help young people feel active, connected and welcomed in their community.

Today marks the last day of our 12 Days of Good News Stories! As we close out 2025 and the holiday season, we pause to reflect on the incredible journey of Belgravia Foundation since its establishment in 2017.

From an idea driven by purpose to a national charity creating meaningful change, our vision has always been clear: remove barriers and create pathways for people who experience barriers to access leisure, sport, recreation, aquatics and health.

Over the past eight years, Belgravia Foundation has evolved into a trusted partner and sector leader, delivering initiatives that improve access for people with disability, support mental health and wellbeing, and create opportunities for culturally and linguistically diverse communities, First Nations peoples, and other underrepresented groups.

As CEO Dr. Jeff Walkley shared:
“Belgravia Foundation has always been about people — the communities we serve and the incredible team who show up every day with passion and purpose. I am immensely proud of what we have built together.”

To everyone who has been part of this journey since 2017, thank you! This legacy belongs to you. As we look ahead, our purpose remains steadfast: ensuring everyone has the opportunity to participate, belong and thrive.

🎄 Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from all of us at Belgravia Foundation! Here’s to an inclusive and impactful 2026.

Organised by Belgravia Leisure staff and with collaboration from Circular Head Aboriginal Corporation, the Aquathon showcased the power of movement, connection, and giving back.

This event raised funds with Belgravia Foundation to support future community initiatives through programs that connect people to sports, aquatics, leisure, recreation, fitness, and employment opportunities.

Ashley Stephens, Venue Manager at SWELL Palmerston, remarked:
"It was inspiring to see the community unite through the Aquafit program to support Belgravia Foundation and make a tangible difference locally."

Today we are recapping the success of Mental Health eLearning Program (MHeLP), Belgravia Foundation’s mental health e-learning tool, which has become a cornerstone for improving confidence and understanding of mental health across the leisure sector.

By equipping staff with knowledge and tools, MHeLP is helping create safer, more supportive environments for both employees and community members.

More than 8,300 individuals across the leisure, aquatics, fitness, recreation, and sport sectors having completed its MHeLP.

Survey data shows that MHeLP has had a measurable impact, with a 21% increase in participants’ confidence to adapt programs and sessions to better support individuals living with mental health conditions. This growth in workforce capability is helping to create safer, more supportive spaces for all.

This initiative reflects Belgravia Foundation’s commitment to prioritising mental health as part of holistic inclusion.

Future plans include expanding the platform with new modules and resources to further strengthen mental health awareness in leisure spaces.

On day six we are celebrating swimming sessions for Ukrainian women rebuilding their lives in Australia at Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre, NSW.

This initiative provides a safe and supportive environment where participants can learn water safety and swimming skills while forming friendships and regaining confidence.

Choosing culturally sensitive instructors was a key element to ensuring participants felt respected and understood.

Nearly 80 women have participated in the program and between 20 to 30 now attend regular aqua aerobic classes.
For many participants, like Yuliia, the program has been transformative. Yuliia described it as “healing, friendship, laughter, and a sense of belonging I didn’t expect to find so far from home.”

The program has also strengthened key partnerships with the ‘NSW Service for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture and Trauma Survivors’ and the Ukrainian Council of NSW and reinforced Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre’s reputation as a safe, inclusive hub for community recovery.

The program is a powerful example of how leisure can help people heal and thrive through social connection

Thanks to the ACT Government Disability Inclusion Grant, the centre, in partnership with Belgravia Foundation and Belgravia Leisure, has transformed its approach to accessibility and inclusion with funding supporting the introduction of an Inclusion Coordinator.

This role has been pivotal in driving staff training, improving facilities, and embedding inclusive practices across programs.

Looking ahead, Stromlo Leisure Centre plans to build on this success by introducing new programs and resources for people with disabilities.

Day four of our 12 days of stories celebrates a program making a real difference in water safety for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in Bathurst, NSW.

Co-designed with the Bathurst Local Aboriginal Land Council and subsidised by Belgravia Foundation, this initiative focuses on education first, teaching children about water safety before introducing survival techniques in the pool.

This approach empowers kids to feel confident and safe around water while respecting cultural needs and community priorities.

The program has strengthened relationships with local organisations, creating pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families to connect with leisure experiences. More than just swimming, the program has helped build trust, confidence, and inclusion.

Belgravia Foundation is committed to continuing these partnerships and expanding programs that save lives and create opportunities for all.
