We host exhibitions and creative workshops all year round in a relaxed, welcoming setting. We are dedicated to traditional art and do not engage with NFTs. Ellis House is a beautiful historic home originally built in 1912 by George and Elma Ellis. It was one of the first dairy farms in the district and after many years it was saved from dereliction, and refurbished with a joint grant with the City

of Bayswater and the Federal Government restoration project. An expression of interest was advertised By City of Bayswater and Mrs Derna Johnson applied and was accepted and a community art centre was formed. In March 2004 "Friends of Ellis House" was formed and 8 years on and many members later Ellis House became Ellis House Community Art Centre Incorporated. It is now a beautiful relaxing environment and is truly appreciated by the public. One has only to read the wonderful compliments written by the public in our visitor books which are all kept here at Ellis House. All rooms are used to exhibit art work and is an ideal place for artists of all levels to paint, enjoy lessons and to learn from one another. We have exhibitions all year and the gallery space is open for both members and the general public. Bookings are taken from September each year and fill up by December. Ellis House is open from Thursday to Sunday from 10.00am to 4pm and 10-5 on the weekends.

Following a fabulous Friday night opening and another lovely celebration on Sunday afternoon, the walls of Ellis House are now alive with the work of four very different artists:

And if you missed the openings, don’t worry you’ve still got plenty of time to visit.

This is an exciting and wonderfully diverse exhibition, with each artist bringing their own style, ideas and creative voice to the gallery.

Come through the doors, take your time, wander the rooms and experience the artworks for yourself. You might even discover a piece that you can’t quite leave behind. 😉🎨

🎨 SQUINT AT IT!

Ellie says… squint! 👀

It might look a little strange, but squinting at your painting helps take away all those distracting little details.

Suddenly you’ll notice the big shapes, lights and darks instead.

If everything starts blending into one big middle tone, you might need a little more contrast.

🎨 IT’S THE FINAL WEEK!

If you’ve been meaning to visit the Ellis House Art Centre exhibition at The Rise, consider this your little reminder there’s only one week left!

Featuring work by Ellis House artists across a wonderful mix of styles, subjects and mediums, the exhibition is a snapshot of the creativity within our artistic community.

We’ve shared quite a few of the artworks with you over the past few weeks… but art really is better seen in person. ❤️

And if something happens to catch your eye, the artworks are available for purchase you might even find the perfect piece to take home.

So if you’re heading through Maylands this week, pop into The Rise, take a wander and enjoy the exhibition before it finishes.

🎨 WHAT A WEEKEND AT ELLIS HOUSE!

There’s something very special about seeing an exhibition come to life artwork on the walls, artists proudly sharing their work, visitors wandering through the galleries, conversations flowing… and even a little live music on the verandah. ❤️

This weekend we had not one, but two wonderful opportunities to celebrate our newest exhibition at Ellis House Art Centre.

Friday evening saw us celebrate with Abby Gleadhill, Isabella Richmond and Chloe Lazaroo, followed by another lovely gathering this afternoon celebrating Yvonne Harrison.

Thank you to everyone who joined us across the weekend and helped make both occasions so special and congratulations to our four exhibiting artists. 👏🎨

If you couldn’t make the openings, don’t worry the exhibition is only just beginning.

Come through the doors over the coming weeks, take your time wandering the galleries and discover four artists, four individual perspectives and a wonderfully diverse collection of work.

After Friday night’s celebrations, today we turn the spotlight to Yvonne Harrison, who invites you to join her for her opening afternoon at Ellis House Art Centre. 🥂

Yvonne’s expressive and colourful work is part of our newest exhibition, alongside the work of Isabella Richmond, Abby Gleadhill and Chloe Lazaroo — four artists bringing together a wonderfully diverse collection of styles and creative voices.

One of the best parts of being part of the Ellis House Art Centre community is encouraging and inspiring one another. Every artwork is unique, and seeing different interpretations of the same theme is what makes our monthly challenge so much fun.

🥂 TONIGHT’S THE NIGHT! 🎨

The artworks are on the walls, the doors are ready to open… and tonight we begin celebrating our newest exhibition at Ellis House Art Centre.

Tonight we join Isabella, Abby and Chloe for their Opening Night — a wonderful opportunity to meet the artists, explore their work and enjoy a relaxed evening of art, conversation and community at Ellis House.

🎉 FIVE ARTWORKS HAVE FOUND NEW HOMES! 🎨

There’s something rather special about creating a piece of art… putting it out into the world… and discovering that someone connects with it enough to want to take it home. ❤️

🎨🌿 What Happens at an Ellis House Workshop?

Sometimes the best way to explain it is simply to show you. 💙

During workshop week, Bella’s Tiny Oil Painting Workshop took creativity outside, with artists settling beneath the beautiful old trees in the grounds of Ellis House Art Centre for a morning of painting.

Tiny canvases, oil paints, plenty of inspiration and one rather spectacular outdoor studio! 🌳🎨

Workshops at Ellis House aren’t just about learning a new technique. They’re an opportunity to try something different, meet other creative people, spend a few hours making art and perhaps discover something you’d like to explore a little further.

And you certainly don’t need to arrive as an expert that’s what workshops are for.

Our recent Workshop Week brought together artists, tutors, different mediums and lots of opportunities to create, learn and have a little fun along the way.

A big thank you to Bella for sharing her knowledge and creativity, and to everyone who came along and made the day such a lovely one. 💙
