Along with the stalled impeachment of Sara Duterte, the wholesale sellout of the country’s natural resources and critical minerals to the US-led Pax Silica initiative, worsening socio-economic conditions and criminally low wages, skyrocketing prices of basic necessities and goods, forced migration and export of cheap labour, continuing State repression, militarism, and fascism throughout the archipelago –with over 50 illegal arrests of protesters on the day of Marcos Jr’s SONA itself –

ICYMI: BAYAN Australia along with its allied organisations and the Filipino community here in Melbourne/Naarm held a People’s State of the Nation Address to protest the US-Marcos Jr. Regime’s 5th SONA and state the true conditions of the Filipino people in the Philippines and overseas.

In this People’s SONA, the Filipino people heavily condemns the agreement between the United States and the puppet Marcos Jr regime on the Pax Silica Initiative. The real conditions of migrant workers were also exposed, while the call to abolish the Labour Export Policy is still continuing today.

BAYAN Australia and its allied organisations remains clear that there is no real option between Bongbong Marcos Jr and Sara Duterte as they are both enemies of the Filipino people and it is the Filipino people themselves that will hold them accountable for their crimes and blatant disregard of the demands and aspirations of the broad majority.

Several anti-imperialist groups and Philippine solidarity organisations also participated and supported the protests. Condemning the role of US imperialism in its wars of aggressions and continuous repression of the peoples’ movement all around the globe.

The Filipino people are tired of false promises with no real resolutions to the problems faced by our society. The Filipino people are tired of being sold as cash cows overseas!

BAYAN Australia calls on the Filipino people to continue the struggle for genuine independence and democracy as US imperialism continues to subjugate the Philippines, including in its recent agreement with the puppet US-Marcos Jr regime on the Pax Silica Scheme and the continuation of US led wars on aggression and militarism in the Asia Pacific region, among other parts of the world. BAYAN Australia also calls on the conviction of Sara Duterte and vehemently oppose the delay on the impeachment trial.
