INVITATION TO CONTRIBUTORS TO COMMENT ON
THE BAUPLE COMMUNITY ACTION PLAN
• The BCPA (Bauple Community Progress Association) Management Committee wishes to update the community on the progress of the Community Action Development Plan.
• Community stakeholders include residents (including youth), community associations, and business/industry.
• Facilitation: Peter Kenyon, who has worked with Bauple and the Fraser Coast since 2008, was engaged to facilitate input and prepare the 2026 plan.
• Draft Progress: Initial draft received: Friday 27 Mar 26.
Second draft was received shortly after confirming overwhelming community desires for Town Unity and an open Convenience Store,
Further submissions were then provided by BCPA and the Macadamia House Directors.
Drafts and submissions are available for viewing at Bauple Broadband.
• Additional Input: Cr Truscott confirmed discussions with the facilitator; however, details of that advice were not provided
Community associations have also submitted contributions direct to Peter Kenyon.
Peter Kenyon advised he spoke to in excess of 70 people.
• Transparency Note: Due to hall unavailability (BBH-Bauple Band Hall and Q150-Shed), a full community workshop format was not possible. This has limited the usual level of open, collective review.

Community Contributions & Archiving: All contributors are invited to provide a hard copy of their submissions. A compilation folder is available at the Bauple Broadband Office.
The BCPA will ensure the final collation will be archived in the District Museum, consistent with the 2012 Community Plan.

BCPA remains committed to transparency and encourages all community members to review and contribute.

Subject: Bauple communication

Good afternoon
Thank you for providing Mr O’Brien with a copy of the Bauple Community Progress Association’s submission to the Inquiry into the Telecommunications Legislation Amendment (Universal Outdoor Mobile Obligation) Bill 2025.
You may be aware that Telstra Coverage Maps are intended as a guide to predicted outdoor coverage only, and that local geography, environmental conditions, network demand, and device capability can impact service quality.
A number of people have also contacted Mr O’Brien’s office regarding their concerns about the closure of the 3G network, particularly that mobile phone coverage in some areas has deteriorated following the shutdown of the 3G network. Where drops in service have been experienced, reports should be made directly to service providers so they may seek a solution.
We have added Bauple, Forest View, and Talegalla Weir to our list of mobile black spots and will post the potential project on the Black Spot Noticeboard when the next round of Australian Government Mobile Black Spot funding is announced.
The Noticeboard will help to inform both Government and telecommunication providers where new investments are needed to extend mobile coverage to reduce or eliminate black spots.
Receiving Mobile Black Spot funding relies on a telecommunications company approving the project and committing to providing a share of the required funding, and the Australian Minister for Communications to approve the project and deliver the co-funding required.
Unfortunately, while a telecommunications company can commit to a project, unless the Communications Minister releases co-funding, the project is unlikely to proceed.
In the time since Mr O’Brien was elected in 2016, the former Coalition Government made good progress in extending mobile coverage to 19 locations across Wide Bay. It is disappointing that the Albanese Labor Government has failed to make any new investments to improve coverage in Wide Bay since it was elected in 2022.
Thank you again for contacting Mr O’Brien about mobile phone coverage in your area. Hopefully by working together, we can improve the mobile network throughout Wide Bay.
Kind regards
Alison Beasley | Media Adviser

Re. Fuel raffle/prize

There have been enquiries as to who won the fuel raffle prize, which was meant to be held in conjunction with the Workshop and Peter Kenyon visit. Unfortunately, as the BCPA could not secure a venue for this to take place the prize money is being held by the BCPA for a future raffle/prize, date to be confirmed.

NOTICE TO BAUPLE RESIDENTS - FUEL AVAILABILITY

Many in the community know that the Macadamia House convenience store and service station was forced to close its doors to the public over a decade ago due to a change in the "economic climate".

The directors of Macadamia House have continued to provide fuel for school buses and emergency service vehicles as needed to maintain the safety of our community.

At the beginning of the fuel crisis the directors arranged for a small delivery of fuel, primarily diesel. Although it wasn't purchased at the best price, it is available in emergency for resident's needs. Residents who experience an emergency, particularly of a medical nature, can contact Marc on 0428618822 or Shane on 0415382131 for assistance.

In the meantime, let's unite and support one another during this rough time.

HAVE YOUR SAY ON MOBILE TELECOMMUNICATIONS

An inquiry into the Telecommunications Legislation Amendment (Universal Outdoor Mobile Obligation) Bill 2025 has opened for submissions.

This inquiry gives you an opportunity to let the Government know about the need for more investment to improve mobile telecommunications in rural and regional communities like ours.

The former Coalition Government extended the mobile network to 19 new locations across Wide Bay, but since the Albanese Labor Government came to office they’ve not made any investments to fix our blackspots, it’s not good enough.

Local residents, businesses and emergency services need a reliable communications network to connect family and friends, commerce, and to get the call out for help when disaster strikes.

Submissions close on 8 April and can be lodged here: https://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Committees/Senate/Environment_and_Communications/TLAUOMOBill2025

Link to 28 Useful Tips for Recruiting Volunteers

1. Remember the number one reason given by people for volunteering is ‘someone asked me’…and usually someone they know and respect well. Simply Ask, Ask and Ask!
2. Recognise that volunteers are motivated by a host of motivations – opportunities for social interaction, friendships, skill development,
self development, recognition, altruism, ideological commitment,
incentives etc. – avoid a single recruitment message and ensure
promotional material appeals to a multitude of motivations. Also
remember, the two questions any recruitment material needs to
anticipate are ‘What’s in it for me?’ and ‘’Can I do it?’
3. Remember that volunteer recruitment is fundamentally about
building relationships. Relationship building takes time and involves
growing trust. Commit time to networking, lots of conversations and keep in touch with prospective volunteers for when the time for engagement may be appropriate.
