2026 John Butler Memorial Scratch Races 30/05/2026
Presented By Bathurst Isuzu UTE Australia - Clancy Motors Bathurst ---
After a finishing runner-up on a number of occasions over the last 25years, former world track masters champion Charlie Gascoyne may have thought that he would never win Bathurst premier trophy scratch race the John Butler Memorial. However, he has finally broken through to take out the 2026 memorial in a two up sprint with promising young orange rider Billy Yeo.
Finishing third was last year's winner Jack Cannon who broke away with Gascoyne and Yeo on the climb, with Rich Hobson, Steve Bennett and Mark Windsor chasing the leading trio to the finish.
Both A and B grades combine to race the Butler memorial, with promising young rider Will Renshaw surprising the A graders finishing just behind the overall winners when taking out the B Grade category. No B grade has ever won the Butler Trophy however Will Renshaw certainly was in contention finishing in the sprint for 4th place overall.
Tough riding Tony Shaw finished 2nd in B Grade and 8th Overall, fellow Lithgow rider Stu Holt 3rd in front of Jason Black, Brian Draper and David Reece

RESULTS 2026 Butler Memorial Scratch Race.
A Grade - Charlie Gascoyne (Orange), Billy Yeo (Orange), Jack Cannon, Rich Hobson, Steve Bennett, Mark Windsor,
B Grade - Will Renshaw, Tony Shaw (Harley), Stu Holt (Lithgow), Jason Black, Brian Draper, David Reece.

HARRY STEPHEN MEMORIAL SCRATCH RACES 30/05/2026
The Stephen Family introduced the Harry Stephen Memorial trophy in 2017 for the top C & D Category rider at the Annual Butler Memorial Promotion, the memorial trophy has been a wonderful success with many of the region’s rider targeting the Harry Stephen race. Darren Fenton back again this year after being the top Bathurst club rider in the memorial for 3 of the last 4 years, (although he was defeated by Orange Riders, Lachlan Crump and Jo McRae in 2022 & 2024 races)
Back in 1991 Bathurst’s great cycling champion Harold Buttsworth won this event defeating G. Tolhurst and Merv Sherman, so it was special that in 2026 his great grandson Isaac Buttsworth would win the trophy in his second senior race start with the club. Isaac defeating the inspirational Jeff Parsons in the sprint to the line.
It was a great day for the Buttsworth Family with Isaac’s father Michael third in front of Hallie Allen; with Darren Fenton rounding out the top 5 ahead of Erica Black, Sebastian Gallagher & Peter Hickey. Meanwhile Kevin Bell finished on the top step of the podium in his final race for Bathurst Cycling Club defeating Scott Allen in D Grade section of the 2026 Harry Stephen Memorial.
