Out on the ground with Land Works 🌿

Our Land Works team has been busy across the region, working on a mix of projects in National Parks, reserves and along local roadsides.

From removing invasive species like pines and blackberry to supporting roadside verge maintenance, the team is getting stuck into work that helps protect and maintain local environments.

It’s hands-on, varied work that makes a real difference to our natural spaces and communities.

Great work by the team out in the field

Hands-on, building skills, and getting stuck in ⚡

Shayna Hickey, a 3rd Year Moolarben Coal Operations Electrical Apprentice, was recently on site assisting with a cable run for a sub-main to a swimming pool installation, another step in building her experience across the trade.

During her 3-month domestic stint with Sweb’s Electrical in Mudgee, Shayna has been gaining valuable hands-on experience across a wide range of work, including:

✔ Domestic rough-ins and fit-offs
✔ Solar and battery installations
✔ Fault finding and compliance testing
✔ Switchboard work

It’s great to see Shayna continuing to grow her skills, confidence, and industry knowledge across multiple areas of the trade.

Keep up the great work, Shayna

“Relocating can be stressful but we never felt like we were doing it alone.”

Moving to a new town often comes with uncertainty, especially when you're relocating with your family.

When Nipun and Susanthika made the move to Bathurst, they were navigating more than just a new home. Like many families, they faced the challenge of finding accommodation, securing childcare, and settling into an unfamiliar community.

With support from The Welcome Experience and Local Connector Rahni Darcy, what could have been an overwhelming transition became a positive and seamless experience.

From helping the family find furnished accommodation to connecting them with local services and childcare options, Rahni provided personalised support every step of the way.

For Nipun, that support made all the difference:

“Rahni's support was exceptional, professional, and genuinely caring. It helped us feel welcomed and comfortable much faster than we expected.”

For Susanthika, relocating with a young child made having local support invaluable:

“It honestly felt like we could simply move from point A to point B without worrying about the usual challenges.”

What stood out most was that the support didn't end once they arrived. Even after settling into Bathurst, Rahni remained a trusted point of contact, helping the family build confidence and connections within their new community.

For Nipun and Susanthika, moving to Bathurst wasn't just about relocating for work, it was about finding a place where their family could feel at home.

We're proud to support essential workers and their families as they begin their next chapter in regional NSW.

Dunstal Hibberd and Rohan Jones from our Broken Hill team recently attended the BHHS and Willyama High School Careers Week – Industry Day, alongside NSW Police, NSW Ambulance Service, NSW Fire & Rescue, the SES, Far West Country Universities Centre and TAFE.

It was a great day with plenty of engagement, they spoke with lots of students and had some strong sign-ups.

They also put together a small “showbag” with information packs, pens and notepads, which were snapped up quickly!

We’re pleased to be donating a collection of historic bank ledgers and records, discovered during the renovation of 1 Church St, to the Bathurst District Historical Society next week.

These materials offer a unique window into Bathurst’s past, capturing records of local economic activity and social business practices. A cursory review has revealed the names of Bathurst families and businesses dating back to the 1800s and early 1900s.

Preserving these records ensures they remain accessible for future research and continue to tell the story of our region.

What a great day in Mudgee at the Skillset and Yancoal Moolarben Coal Operations Try-A-Trade Expo!👷‍♀️👷‍♂️

We welcomed around 350 students for a hands-on day exploring different trades and career pathways. It was fantastic to see so much enthusiasm and curiosity in action.

We’re also incredibly grateful to the many businesses and organisations who helped bring the day to life. Students had the chance to connect with and learn from a wide range of industries, including Yancoal Moolarben Coal, Essential Energy, Fire and Rescue NSW, NSW Police, Australian Defence Force, ACEREZ, TAFE NSW, Mid-Western Regional Council, VERTO, Lifeskills Plus, Gowrie NSW, MEGT, O’Ryan Geospatial, Mudgee Cranes, Mudgee Monkey, MAAS Group, Peabody, Western NSW Local Health District, Charles Sturt University, Country Universities Centre, NSW Training Services and more.

A big thank you to AREC for hosting the event, and to all the schools who made the trip to be part of the day.
