This pair of old 'maps' were recently gifted to AshfieldCAN by Catherine who grew up in the family home in Ashfield. Thanks Catherine.
Her Father, Noel, recently passed away, and the maps were discovered amongst his belongings.
They are interesting from a historical point of view and demonstrate the struggle to protect and nurture our precious wetland and make best use of the adjacent Ashfield Flats parkland, which was then named McDonald Park, reflecting its historical use as a Dairy Farm.

One Map, drafted in 1985 by our Bassendean Preservation Group, is reflective of the thinking at the time. The plan included a playground and a pathway that excluded our current riverside walk. This thinking has now changed and under the new management plan proposal, our precious walk, linking Ashfield to Bassendean will be retained.

AshfieldCAN has been passionate in our advocacy for sensible initiatives to preserve the area whilst accommodating the recreational needs of our community. In this we have been supported by BPG. The Town, our MLA Dave Kelly and the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions.

Our passion and advocacy will continue, and we will closely monitor the progression of the Ashfield Flats Management Plan.

Exercise equipment station - coming soon to Gary Blanch Park.
Thanks to a donation by local MLA Dave Kelly, Ashfield is getting some exercise equipment.
Installation will commence shortly.
