And just after 9.30pm last night (Friday) both of our appliances responded to a crash on Deviation Rd at Carey Gully, to assist Carey Gully CFS and Stirling CFS.

Both of our appliances were half way to the job when Carey Gully crews, along with SAPOL, arrived on scene and had the job in hand, and we were not required.

We were back at station and heading home before 10pm.

There's a different appliance in our station!!

Well, just for Cadet training last night (Friday)

We had a visit from Burnside CFS - Robin, Michael & Tristan - who brought Burnside Hazmat - Hazardous Materials appliance to visit our cadets.

Robin ran the cadets through some basic Hazmat theory - what constitutes a hazardous material and what sort of actions the first responding brigade (such as Basket Range) should be taking if they responded to a hazardous material incident.

Then it was out to the vehicle bay to have a look at the Hazmat appliance and the equipment it carries.

Equipment included protective suits ('splash suits' and gas tight suits') and several different items of monitoring equipment.

Thanks Burnside CFS for coming along!

Today, Sunday 24th May, marks the end of National Volunteers week.

The theme for this week has been Your Year to Volunteer.

This week is a moment to thank those who already give their time and to invite others to discover how volunteering can create connection, purpose, and lasting positive change.

Joining the CFS is a great way to connect with your community, learn new skills, become part of a great team of people, and achieve something good.

At Basket Range CFS our members range in age from 12 years to over 70, and everything in between!

Just under 50 % are female.

Our members hold a wide range of occupations, from students to bakers, other emergency services personnel, small business owners, engineers, teachers, uni lecturers, truck drivers, tradies, mechanics, executives, retired and many more.

With winter just about upon us, CFS crews are still busy with calls - trees down, vehicle crashes, building fires and much more.

Our training is still each Monday (except public holidays) from 7.30 - 9.30 pm for the Senior members, and 6 - 7.15 pm every second Friday for cadets, and women only training the first Friday of each month from 6.30pm.

If you have considered joining the Basket Range CFS, now is a good time to do so!!

Head along to a training session, or direct message this page for more information.

Just before 8.50 pm tonight, we were responded to reports of a structure fire on Elborough Ave, Uraidla. Both of our appliances responded.

Crews from Summertown and Carey Gully had already been responded, with crews from Piccadilly & Norton Summit also responded.

We received further information that the fire was on Range Rd at Basket Range.

We eventually located the fire on Range Rd - which was a bonfire - which was burning in a safe location, with the owners in attendance.

Our services were not required, and all appliances headed back to their respective stations soon after.

Thanks Harriet Berry for the photo.

The first cadet training for this term was held on Friday.

We had 13 cadets attend - including two new cadets - welcome Arthur & Ayla!

We started with getting into our PPC - practising getting into all our gear quickly & safely, and checking our buddy, to make sure everything is correct.

Our next exercise involved knapsacks - and an exercise which forms part of the State Cadet Championships coming up in October.

Cadets in teams of 3 needed to put water into 3 knapsacks, then head to a line of cones to hit them with water from the knapsacks.

Once all of the teams had completed the drill, we headed to Basket Range Cricket Club for some hose drill.

Cadets are run fortnightly on a Friday between 6pm & 7.15pm

Fire Danger season in the Mt Lofty Ranges is ending very soon - from Friday May 1st, there will be no CFS fire restrictions on burning in the open.

BUT, before you get burning, consider this:

Friday is forecast to be warm and a little bit windy. Despite the cool & damp nights, the land is very dry.... and there is a high potential for any fire you light to get a bit too hot and a bit too fast and before you know it, it has got away from you.

So, if you are considering undertaking a burn off of any type on Friday, in particular, make sure you are well prepared.

And if you do have a fire and it feels like it is getting away from you, call the CFS early (just ring 000) - smaller fires are easier to deal with than bigger ones!

There is some rain forecast from the weekend - and it might be just enough rain to add a little bit of moisture to the vegetation, to make burning off next week just that little bit calmer and more controllable.

For information about how to burn off safely, see the CFS website:

Just after 7 am this morning (Tuesday) we were responded to reports of a head on crash on Mawson Rd.

Both of our appliances responded, along with our nearby road crash brigade, Lobethal.

Police were on scene with the occupants of both cars - while the cars had damage that required them to be towed, there were no injuries to the occupants.

We were back at station around an hour later.

Just after 10.30 pm on Tuesday evening, our larger appliance (Basket Range 24), along with our nearby road crash rescue brigade, Lobethal, were responded to a single vehicle crash on Lobethal Rd, just down from Deviation Rd, Basket Range.

When crews arrived, we found a (damaged) single car sitting in the middle of the road. SA Ambulance and SA Police were in attendance.

The solo occupant was uninjured.

Our crews remained on scene until a tow truck collected the vehicle.

The fire danger season in the Mt Lofty Ranges, which includes Basket Range is still in place until 30th April - no burning in the open without a permit.

Permits are being issued to National Parks to undertake hazard reduction around the state, including around our area.

🔥 Fire Danger Season Update 🔥

Fire Danger Season has now officially ended in the following Fire Ban Districts:
Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Lower Eyre Peninsula, North East Pastoral, North West Pastoral, West Coast, and Flinders.

While this is a welcome end to the season, we remind everyone in these areas to continue exercising caution when using fire. Recent rain and cooler weather can be misleading, and risks can still remain.

For the rest of the state, Fire Danger Season is expected to end on 30 April. These districts must continue to follow all current restrictions until the season is officially lifted.

Around 4.50 am this morning (Sunday), we were responded to fire alarm at the Basket Range School.

Our large appliance - Basket Range 24 responded.

Despite a thorough search of the buildings, we didn't find any evidence of smoke or fire, and the cause of the alarm is unknown.
