🤫 Shhhh… we’ve been up to something pretty special! 🤫

We’ve been to Newcastle and were lucky enough to be allowed inside the NEW PICU at John Hunter Hospital… where around 100 boxes were waiting for us to unpack, assemble and turn into something very special. 💜

And what a transformation it has been!

We’ve fitted out the family area, kitchenette, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, interview room and terrace, adding all those little touches that make a space feel less clinical and more like home.

Our hope was to create spaces that feel warm, welcoming and safe for the parents, carers and patients who find themselves retrieved to JHH PICU — often during some of the most difficult and overwhelming moments imaginable.

And none of this would have been possible without YOU.

To every single person who walked, participated, helped, supported, sponsored or donated to the Ruby Mae’s Wish Coastrek Team — this is what you helped make possible. 💜

Every kilometer walked.
Every donation made.
Every person who shared our story or cheered us on.

This is where it went. This is the difference you have made.

We’re not allowed to share photos of the finished spaces just yet, as the new hospital hasn’t officially opened… but I can tell you that I personally think it is PHENOMENAL. 🥹💜

We cannot wait until we’re able to show you what we’ve created together.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping Ruby Mae’s Wish create a little more comfort, warmth and kindness for PICU families when they need it most. 💜

We are incredibly proud to share that Ruby Mae's Wish Paediatric Critical Care Education Day has been selected as a Finalist in the 2026 HNELHD Excellence Awards for the High Value Health Care: Patient Safety First Award.

This recognition reflects the dedication, passion and collaboration of everyone involved in creating an education day that supports safer, higher-quality care for critically ill children.

A heartfelt thank you to all our presenters, participants, volunteers and supporters who have helped make this initiative possible. We look forward to celebrating alongside the other finalists at the HNELHD Excellence Awards in October.
