The Highs and Lows of Rescue

Today there are some red-rimmed eyes and fractured hearts as a young Golden girl was shown the way to Rainbow Bridge.

GRR thanks Ben, Amy, Kate and the team at VSoS who threw everything they had to save this girl and thanks to all of our supporters who donate and make it possible to give this girl a chance at life; unfortunately, the damage had been done, and GRR got her too late to save her. Mochi’s friends who came to love her at VSoS gave her the sendoff she deserved. Unfortunately, rescue is not always all smiles and happiness, and the outcome may not be what we want despite the funds available to help.

However, rescue is also the happiness that comes when Goldies find their forever home, and 18-month-old Sonny, who lived on a chain for 15 months, is now part of a family and apparently loves to watch TV. Despite this boy’s profile showing a dog that was currently working on a trip to the other side of the world by digging, destroying every toy, stealing everything that wasn’t nailed down and taking off with it, ripping up anything he could get his paws and teeth on and pulling like a freight train onlead, his new family rescue proofed their home and welcomed Sonny into his new life. This couple understands what rescue is all about.

Today there are tears for the loss we all tried so hard to prevent and smiles as we see Sonny take his place with his loving forever family.

💔🌈🐾 Run free, Mochi...... 🐾🌈 💔

GRR received Teddy’s eight-week postoperative update recently. For our followers who are just catching up with Teddy’s journey, this young boy came into care in March 2026 at the age 9 months as he required double hip surgery. Teddy was taken three days after his arrival to visit Dr Rob at VSoS (Veterinary Specialists of Sydney) where he had X-rays and was placed into Foster Care with Sarah, her family and Wally, the Irish Wolfhound. Teddy’s hip replacement surgery was performed by Dr Rob four weeks later and his recuperation and rehabilitation with his foster carer, Sarah, has been ongoing overseen by VSoS.

Recently GRR received Teddy’s eight-week post-operative update, every paragraph showing positive outcomes for Teddy. His foster carer, Sarah, has done and is doing the best job caring for Teddy. Caring for a Goldie post hip surgery is lengthy and requires both physical and emotional input, and this is just Teddy’s first hip surgery. His next hip surgery will be discussed at Teddy’s 16-week post-hip replacement surgery assessment.

Teddy would like to thank the many people who have donated towards his surgery, sent emails enquiring after Teddy’s life in foster and post-operative care and especially his foster family and Specialist VSoS Vet. Teddy will be one year old on the 19th June, and that birthday might never have happened except for a family who reached out to GRR for help, the expertise of Dr Rob at VSoS, the care given by Teddy’s foster carer, and all of you who care about Teddy.

Teddy is on his way to his new life because all of you care.

News from Teddy’s foster carer, Sarah, shows that his recovery is steaming ahead. Rehabilitation with Alicia from VSoS (Veterinary Specialists of Sydney) and sessions of Hydrotherapy as well as Sarah following up with exercises at home show Teddy making remarkable progress. Of course, Teddy has his foster brother, Wally, urging him on from the sidelines. Wally and Teddy have become very close and Wally, the Irish Wolfhound is Teddy’s biggest supporter.

All of Teddy’s rehabilitation is possible because of the GRR’s followers who have donated towards Teddy’s care and continue to wish him well.

Fur, Drool & Mud *** PAWMANITY’s Covers Save the Day (and the Seats!)

GRR would like to send an enormous thank‑you to PAWMANITY for their generous donation of two large cartons of car seat covers and cargo liners. Our foster carers have already been putting them through their paces with an impressive parade of Goldies, each one determined to shed, drool, shake and enthusiastically “express themselves” in the back seat.

The verdict so far: beautifully made, thoughtfully designed and tough enough to withstand a wet dog and a car full of fur. Rumours are circulating among the Goldies that these covers are comfier than the family couch, although the jury’s still out on whether it’s chew-proof.

For volunteers who open their homes, hearts and cars to dogs in need and who spend countless hours ferrying Goldies to safety, vet appointments and specialist consults, having quality protection like this is far more than a convenience; it’s a genuine, sanity‑saving gift that makes day‑to‑day fostering that little bit easier.

These covers have already saved countless interiors from muddy paws, surprise slobber, heroic moulting and the occasional “incident” that only a Golden Retriever can deliver with such confidence and pride. Thanks to Pawmanity, our volunteers can focus on the dogs, not the detailing bill. PAWMANITY, your generosity travels with every rescue, whether they're leaping in with wild abandon or being coaxed aboard with treats and gentle encouragement. No matter their enthusiasm, or lack thereof, for car rides or concern for your upholstery, GRR Foster Carers couldn’t be more grateful.

Teddy is spending quiet time recovering from his hip replacement surgery with his foster carer, a human foster carer and an Irish Wolfhound foster brother. They are keeping Teddy quiet and calm during this long process, and they are doing a good job because Teddy’s stitches have been removed and his rehabilitation has started.

Teddy is looking very cute in his goggles while having his laser therapy, and Sarah, his foster carer has learned how to do his daily exercises.

Rehabilitation after replacement hip surgery is a long process, but Teddy’s team is all over it, and Teddy looks like he is enjoying every moment.

Teddy sends his thanks to the many people who donated towards his surgical expenses and is doing his best to show his many supporters just how far he has improved.
