U11s Bangor Tigers vs Bombers U11 Boys Red, Round 15 – Sunday, 16 August

It was a pretty physical game for the boys this week, coming up against some considerably bigger bodies in the Bombers side. They were knocked around plenty and there were a few battered and bruised Tigers by the end, but the pleasing part was how they kept getting back up and getting on with the game. The focus stayed on the footy and we were able to keep the scoreboard ticking over across all four quarters.

We couldn’t have asked for a better start. We won the first clearance, drove the ball forward and Fox finished it off with a goal, before going on to kick three in what was easily his best game for the Tigers so far. Maybe the pre-game chicken wings really are the secret! Jordy and Jack were also strong in attack, while our backline stood up time and again against plenty of pressure.

Thomas put together another really solid game to cap off a fantastic first year of AFL. Patty worked hard in the ruck and along with Ethan and Fraser, gave us plenty of first use and drive through the midfield. Walid-Zaid was his usual tough and reliable self, showing plenty of bravery and tenacity before a heavy head knock ended his day with about 10 minutes to go.

A special mention as well to our U10s Manny, Connor and Cruz, who stepped up to the challenge and never looked out of place. Wherever we asked them to play, they contributed.

Once again, the best part was that everyone played their role. That’s been the story of this group all season and a big reason we’ve been able to get through the regular season undefeated. Moving into Division 2 brought faster, more skilful and more physical opposition, but the boys adapted quickly and showed they had well and truly earned their place there.

That wraps up the regular season, and a massive thank you from the coaching team to such a great group of boys. They’ve worked hard for each other all year and have become a pretty formidable team along the way. One more hit-out to go, with the Lightning Round against Baulko Hawks this Sunday. Go Tigers!

The U9 tigers were back at home this week against the Miranda Bombers on a cold but fine morning for football.

We celebrated 50 Game milestones for Mason and Ethan today!

The tigers got out of the blocks quickly from the first bounce with most of the play in the first quarter with ball predominantly in our forward half. Ethan snagged a couple of early goals while midfield and defence set up the wall across the middle of the ground.

The boys ramped up the intensity around the contest in the second quarter with some great tackling. Koah was dominant in the ruck and giving the midfield the advantage to break out of stoppage.

After half time the boys moved the ball with a number of hand ball chains to move the ball forward. River and Koah combined with some crafty work to handball out of trouble. Koah kicked a couple of long range goals.

The last quarter went much the same with Bentley taking the game on with speed and taking a few bounces to drive the ball forward. Dean kicked a couple of late ones to finish with 3 for the day and Ethan kicked the last goal to finish with 3 also.

Great to see the team combine tackling pressure with ball movement and handballing out of contests. Also finishing off the great work with good goal kicking.

Definitely the best team performance for the year!

U11s Bangor Tigers vs Ramsgate Rams, Round 14 - Sunday 9 August

A Tough Battle at Barden Ridge.

It was a cold morning at Barden Ridge Oval as the Bangor U11s took on a physical Div 2 Ramsgate side in what was a tough and hard-fought contest. From the opening bounce, the Bangor boys showed tremendous determination and teamwork, matching Ramsgate’s physicality and never backing down. It was a fantastic team effort, with every player contributing and showing plenty of courage around the football.

A special highlight was Finn celebrating his 50th game for Bangor. A fantastic milestone and thoroughly deserved recognition for his commitment and contribution to the team.

There were plenty of individual highlights throughout the game. Liam took some excellent strong marks, while Pat was relentless with his tackling and produced one of the moments of the game with a brilliant goal from an incredibly acute angle. Thomas was clever as always, consistently finding the football and making smart decisions when in possession.

Darcy played an important role in the final quarter, making several crucial contributions when the game was on the line. Ethan arguably produced his best game in a Bangor jumper, showing tremendous determination and repeatedly throwing himself into contests to win the football. With Arthur, Fraser, Harvey, Lachlan, Jordan, Walid, Jack and the rest of the team also contributing across the four quarters, it was a performance that demonstrated the strength of this Bangor group.

The boys should be extremely proud of the way they competed against a physical opposition. A great team effort, plenty of courage, and another fantastic step forward for the Bangor U11s!

U11s Bangor Tigers vs East Sydney Bulldogs U11 Red, Round 13 – Sunday, 2 August

The Tigers ventured into the city for their long-awaited first game in Division 2, taking on East Sydney at the famous Trumper Oval. The Bulldogs kicked a couple of early goals and put the boys on the back foot in a noticeably faster-paced contest.

The team adapted quickly, lifting its pressure and beginning to move the ball effectively into the forward line. The goals were shared across the side, reflecting another strong team performance and the balanced contribution that has been central to the group’s progress this season.

Walid continued his consistent form, repeatedly repelling attacks in defence and again showing his versatility across the ground. Jack was brilliant off half-back, Patrick provided plenty of midfield drive through his ruck work, and Ethan produced one of his best recent games with a solid contribution wherever he was asked to play.

Arthur continued his steady improvement and delivered his best game of the season, while Thomas was again solid across the ground. He proved dangerous when moved forward and was equally effective coming out of the backline.

It was an impressive effort to step into the higher division and maintain the strong football the boys have been building throughout the year. With two games remaining, the Tigers can take plenty of confidence into this weekend’s match against Ramsgate.

U11s Bangor Tigers vs Bombers U11 Boys Grey, Round 12 – Sunday, 26 July

The Tigers took on the Bombers at Barden Ridge Oval and produced an encouraging team performance. The boys attacked the game with purpose and continued to show progress in how they worked together across the ground.

Our movement of the footy was a highlight, with players looking to run, support and bring teammates into the game. Jack and Fraser were quick out of the packs, taking plenty of bounces and driving the ball forward, while Jordy provided a strong physical presence and run throughout the match.

It was great to see Jack back to his best, and Arthur also put together some excellent moments of brilliance. Harvey worked hard to get involved and made the most of a set shot to kick his first goal in a while. The way the whole team got around to congratulate him was a terrific display of mateship and team camaraderie.

Thomas and Patrick were solid contributors for the Tigers and also represented the team well when they played for the opposition. Their effort and willingness to help both sides reflected the positive spirit of junior footy.

There were plenty of good signs in our ball movement, attack and support for one another. The challenge is to keep building on these qualities and carry that teamwork into the remaining rounds as we move up to Division 2.
