Great to see Bairnsdale View Club welcoming their local Mayor Jodie Ashworth - East Gippsland Shire Council to a meeting recently.

It was an opportunity for the Mayor to share Council updates with members as well as members to share more about VIEW with her.

Making connections, makes a difference! ๐Ÿ’œ

Win-Win!

๐ŸŒŸ Mayor Cr Jodie Ashworth loves nothing more than getting out into the community and last week's visit to the Bairnsdale VIEW Club June meeting was a great reminder why.

VIEW Clubs (Voice, Interests and Education of Women) bring local women together while raising vital funds for The Smith Family's Learning for Life program and the Bairnsdale club currently sponsors 20 local students, helping change the trajectory of young lives right here in our region.

The Mayor took the chance to share a little about her own journey too, from small business and tourism to financial counselling, and what's shaped her approach as your Mayor as well as presenting on their club's chosen topic which was Council's Homes for Everyone position paper.

Thank you to the Bairnsdale VIEW Club for the warm welcome - we love seeing the difference organisations like yours make within our community๐Ÿ’›

Stepping out of your comfort zone is often what VIEW members find themselves doing.

And that's exactly how Wantirna Day VIEW Club (VIC) member Judy felt recently.

In May, Wantirna Day VIEW Club hosted a stall at the Knox Volunteer Expo. The club was invited to promote themselves 'live' on the local radio station so Judy bravely volunteered! ๐Ÿ‘

Judy did a great job highlighting the benefits of VIEW and inviting other women in the community to go along to a meeting.

The club's stall also attracted dozens of people with Judy and the club's Secretary, Linda, having a wonderful time talking about VIEW.

Well done Judy and Linda - what a great way to raise the club's profile! ๐Ÿ’œ

Media Monday! ๐Ÿ’œ

Publicity tip: It's okay to send your media release and photo to more than one publication or media outlet at the same time.

This can increase the chances of your story getting published!

In this week's Media Monday, we've shared articles from Nepean Evening VIEW which were published in two of their local papers - the Western Weekender and Nepean News. ๐Ÿ‘

Do you want to turn your bottles into books?

The Smith Family has partnered with Return and Earn in a new campaign helping disadvantaged kids have an equal chance to learn!

Returning 30 eligible containers to your local Return and Earn depot will fund one book for a child living with disadvantage. And every container donated contributes 10 cents towards The Smith Family's $200,000 fundraising goal!

Watch and share this video to see how simple it is! ๐Ÿ’œ

Send your photos to [email protected] so we can share them with the VIEW community.

To increase awareness of VIEW and the work of The Smith Family, VIEW's National Councillors are encouraged and supported to contact their Local, State and Federal representatives to request a meeting.

Recently Annette Harriott, VIEW National Councillor for Central & East Metro Melbourne (VIC) met with her local Mayor of Manningham, Cr Jim Grivas. In this area, there are 19 VIEW Clubs, with around 1,000 VIEW members who sponsor 130 Smith Family Learning for Life students. ๐Ÿ‘

At the meeting, Annette talked about VIEW's history, her local club, Doncaster VIEW Club and how, with the Council's support, the club could be improved and grow its connection with the Manningham Council.

The pair also discussed promotion of Doncaster VIEW Club and the possibility of an article about the club appearing in 'Manningham Mattersโ€™, the newsletter that all ratepayers receive. ๐Ÿ’œ

Sounds like a very productive and beneficial meeting for both VIEW and Manningham Council! Well done Annette - thanks for sharing this and your photo!

๐Ÿ“ฃ VIEW members - The Smith Family needs your help! ๐Ÿ“ฃ

A six-month partnership between The Smith Family and Return and Earn in NSW has kicked off, helping Australian children living with disadvantage access the books and learning resources they need.

Until mid-October, communities across NSW can turn their bottles into books with every 30 eligible containers funding one book for a child living with disadvantage. The Smith Familyโ€™s goal is to help 60,000 children through the power of education.

๐Ÿ’œHow you and your club can help ๐Ÿ’œ

๐Ÿ‘‰Run a collection drive at your club's meeting, community centre, local schools, or local event.
๐Ÿ‘‰Invite friends, family, neighbours, and local businesses to donate their containers.
๐Ÿ‘‰Encourage regular recyclers to donate a portion of their Return and Earn refund to The Smith Family โ€” even just for one chosen week.
๐Ÿ‘‰Share this campaign on local noticeboards, newsletters, and social media (all clubs will receive posters).

Well done Macarthur Evening VIEW Club (NSW)!๐Ÿ’œ

Last year, Macarthur Evening VIEW members were recognised in Parliament by their local MP Sally Quinnell.

Then in April, the club's President Trisha and Vice President Denise were honoured to be invited to an afternoon tea hosted by Mrs Quinnell.

To their surprise, they were presented with a folder containing a copy of the Hansard transcript, recognising the club's contribution.

Members are incredibly proud to have their contributions recorded in NSW Parliament.

We are proud too! ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ‘

Unsure where to start with your VIEW Club's media? Try these tips:

โœ… Keep your pitch short - draft a few clear sentences that explain the who, what, where and when of your story.

โœ… Include a photo - A friendly good quality photo of members or a VIEW event can help your story get noticed.
