After the disappointment of having to cancel our first outing of the year due to extreme heat, on the 24th Feb an enthusiastic group of members travelled to Lambleys Nursery at Ascot, north of Ballarat. Although the property has recently changed hands, original owner David Glenn was on hand to give us an extensive tour of the beautiful gardens he has developed over the almost 40 years since the nursery was established. Among the thousands of plants were stunning displays of roses, salvias, alstroemeria, dahlias, penstemons, verbena and buddlejas just to name a few. The bees were definitely in their happy place, There were also beautiful arbors and garden rooms offering a cool, green retreat from the sun. After the tour, who could resist the opportunity to make a few small purchases from the nursery before heading to Creswick for lunch. Whilst there the morning sun gave way to dark clouds and a torrential downpour (but no complaints from keen gardeners desperate for rain). Luckily no one had opted for a picnic lunch in the park!
A lovely time had by all and many thanks to Leonie for organising the day.
