Swiss Club of NSW

Swiss Club of NSW We promote social activities and friendships within the Swiss community of NSW, and encourage friendly interaction with clubs, Australians and affiliates.

The Swiss Club of NSW became a Club in 1924 when the former Swiss Society of NSW changed into the Swiss Club of NSW and succeeded the Society. However, the Swiss Club of NSW was founded on Wednesday, 2 October 1968 and currently has around 300 members and growing! We are a non-profit organisation and therefore membership fees are kept as low as possible. The Club does not have a formal Clubhouse.

We meet up and organise functions at various venues. We have links to the other Groups and the Consulate of Switzerland to support all Swiss activities in NSW and other sates and territories in Australia.

🎯 Back to Tradition: Schützenfest Returns! 🇨🇭

*Past Event: Sydney Schützenfest 2026 at the Swiss Smallbore Rifle Club*

The Swiss Club of NSW was delighted to bring back its much-loved Sydney Schützenfest on Sunday, 22 March 2026, co-hosted with the Swiss Smallbore Rifle Club in Manly Vale. After a few years' hiatus, it was fantastic to see this traditional Swiss event return with such enthusiasm, drawing a strong turnout of members and friends eager to take part.

The morning began with a comprehensive safety briefing and introduction to the range, ensuring all participants were well prepared. Once underway, the competition quickly proved to be both friendly and fiercely contested. Shooters competed across several rounds, testing their precision, focus, and consistency. The atmosphere was lively, with plenty of encouragement, camaraderie, and good-natured rivalry throughout the event.

As the scores came in, it was clear that the competition would be decided by the narrowest of margins. Congratulations go to Shruti, who delivered an outstanding performance to secure first place with a score of 193, earning the title of 2026 Schützenfest Sydney Champion. Thomas followed closely in second place with 192, while Yves claimed third place with 191—a testament to the high standard of shooting on the day. Shruti (pictured with our President, Daniel) was presented with an official winner's certificate along with a well-deserved gift of Swiss Lindor chocolates.

Following the competition, participants gathered to enjoy a delicious BBQ, expertly organised by our Functions Coordinator, Felix Halter. This provided the perfect opportunity to relax, share stories, and celebrate the day's achievements in a warm and social setting.

A sincere thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to making this event such a success. We look forward to continuing this proud Swiss tradition in the years to come.

TOP SECRET DRUM CORPS FROM BASEL AT ROYAL EDINBURGH MILITARY TATTOO IN BRISBANE, QLD

By Anne Held

To celebrate its 75th anniversary, the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo 2026, considered one of the most iconic and spectacular live events in the world, will be presented for the first time in Brisbane, Queensland, at Suncorp Stadium.

More than 30 bands, some 1,000 performers from various countries! And proudly swinging the Swiss flag will be the Top Secret Drum Corps from Basel, Switzerland, in their black uniforms and big hats with a white feather. The group was formed in 1991 by young drummers who began mixing the traditional Basel Fasnacht style with other drum types and adding exciting, spectacular visual effects. Since being invited to the famous Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo for the first time in 2003, they have now performed in some 22 countries and have become fan favourites, thanks to their precision, imagination, passion, humour and thrilling tempo. In 2019, they were widely applauded during the Tattoo at ANZ Stadium in Sydney's Olympic Park.

Dates: Brisbane, Qld, Suncorp Stadium 12th – 15th February 2026.

And, of course, TSDC will be at the Basel Tattoo from 17th to 25th July 2026.

*Buure Z'morge at Mosman Art Gallery*

On Sunday, 25 May, we hosted a Buure Z'morge (Swiss Farmers' Breakfast) event in the Grand Hall at the Mosman Art Gallery and Community Centre. All the Swiss decorations hanging in the hall and the red and white tablecloths gave the space a comforting feel.

We had an amazing attendance with over 100 guests. Our President, Daniel Frutiger, and his wonderful team of Board Members and their families made a great effort in the kitchen and on the floor to make this event possible.

We offered tea and coffee, a selection of Swiss cheeses from Mayers Fine Food, fleischkäse, bresola, coppa, double-smoked ham and sausages from German Butchery Deli & Café and Spiess Australia, mini quiche and birchermüesli, hard-boiled eggs with mayonnaise, a fruit platter, honey, and jams; and, who could forget the wide selection of delicious, crusty Swiss bread from Organic Bread Bar who kindly baked us Zopf for the event. Lindt Chocolate Shops Australia kindly donated dark chocolate balls, and every attendee received some at their table as a welcome gesture!

We would like to thank Philippe Wittwer, who filled the Grand Hall with lovely Swiss accordion and piano music.

We would like to thank our wonderful team of volunteers who helped on the day. Their efforts make this event a favourite among the Swiss community in Sydney. We also thank the Mosman Art Gallery and Community Centre once again for providing a beautiful space that our guests enjoyed and a fully equipped kitchen. Lastly, we thank everyone who attended and supported your Swiss community. We hope you had a wonderful day and enjoyed the Swiss food!
