Australia's largest subtropical butterfly has a surprisingly specific diet.

Richmond Birdwing caterpillars feed on the native Richmond Birdwing Vine, making them a specialist species with a dependence on certain host plants.

This is just one example of the unique and intricate biodiversity relationships that need to be understood for effective rainforest restoration. 🦋🌿

Islands of rainforest in a sea of farmland. With currently 40 rainforest remnants under care, for the last 30+ years, BSRC's Remnant Care Program has worked to protect and restore these precious fragments. 🛠🌳

The remnants hold the key to the future of the Big Scrub. Despite their size, these remnants protect extraordinary biodiversity and act as reservoirs of the plants, animals and genetic diversity needed for restoration. 🦉

The Big Scrub may have been fragmented, but these ancient forests continue to provide hope for its recovery. ✨

📱🌱 Science and technology working hand in hand to support rainforest restoration!

Developed by our partners at the Research Centre for Ecosystem Resilience (ReCER) at Botanic Gardens of Sydney, the ReCER Field Collection App allows our propagule collectors to record a wealth of valuable data about every seed and cutting collected for our Science Saving Rainforests program.

🌿📍Thanks to the app we can identify the location of the original wild tree the collection was made from as well as things like plant fertility status, soil type and what the collector had for breakfast (😁)

Would you like to help grow Australia's citizen science movement for fungi?

Are you an organised, proactive communicator who enjoys bringing people, projects and ideas together? This is an exciting opportunity to help lead Australia's national fungi citizen science organisation.

Working remotely with Fungimap's Management Committee, you'll coordinate projects, support fundraising and partnerships, grow membership, manage communications, and help deliver initiatives such as the Great Aussie Fungi Hunt.

Knowledge of fungi is a bonus—but a passion for community, conservation and making things happen is what matters most.

Position: National Coordinator (Permanent Part-time – 10 hours/week)
Location: Remote home-based
Salary: $40/hour + super + performance incentive

While only around 1% of the Big Scrub remains, its remnants retain the highest proportion of Gondwana-descended rainforest species in Australia, with many lineages dating back more than 180 million years.

By the end of this financial year, our bush regeneration contractors completed 1,936 hours of on-ground work. That's 242 days spent protecting and restoring ancient remnants of critically endangered lowland subtropical rainforest. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
